I’m really sad

Alesis Nitro Kit Volume Problem

So i just bought today my first E-Drum, a Nitro Kit, i was so excited...but now i'm really disappointed
First of all
1-The overall volume is very low compared to other brand i tried in store
2-My Hi-hat is even lower than the other pads, even when cranking up the db via EZDrummer 2, i still can't get a proper volume
3-The Ride Pad is also having this problem, but to a lesser extent, via the module its not very good, but if i crank up the DB via EZDrummer 2 it gets better
4-The hi-hat have a really bad hit registry, it doesnt detect my soft play, whats weird tho, is that its not the Pad, because if i switch the pad to the crash symbal, it is registering my soft hit..

I've wasted my whole off day trying to fix this problem
Heres what i've done
-Played with all the setting, volume, sensitivity, Treshold, barely makes any difference
-If i switch to another pad i still get low volume input
-tried with different Headphones, different computer, different program
-oh also, if i press the Hi-Hat button on the Module, the sound volume is perfect, but if i hit the Hi-Hat, its crap

Please tell me you have a solution, i'm really starting to regret going with Alesis Drums

  • Hi Carl,

Sorry you're having issues with your Nitro Kit.

It sounds like this may be an issue with your pads or cable snake. Please get in touch with our Technical Support team for assistance with this. Log on to www.alesis.com/support to contact the Support Team. You can find their contact information on that page.

  • Carl...any updates?

I have the same problem with low volume, they are now sending me a third control module to try.

  • EXACT same problem here. I already contacted C/S team and they sent me a replacement cable snake, which did not help at all.

The hi-hat must be hit VERY hard to register even a medium velocity (60-70 range) and it's near impossible to get a velocity over 100 or under 45 (simply does not register). The ride is slightly better. And the crash is totally fine - responsive to soft hits and hard hits alike.

I don't know if I can return it at this point - Bought it on Amazon and no longer have the box.

  • So it appears that if you have a pair of mini jack headphones that have a mini volume control on them, such as apple or skull candy or many others, that control is rendered obsolete, and because of the wiring of the alesis control unit, all volume is almost inaudible, UNLESS you click and hold the volume selector on those phones. Then all volume is normal, (or at least louder), but then it’s one handed drumming from then on, as it always returns to nearly inaudible when you let go.

HOWEVER, older style apple headphones with no volume control seem to work better. So it appears to be the presence of the volume control on the headphone.
Don’t know What the deal is with The quarter inch mono output on the back of The alsesis unit, but it’s output with the other volume controlled headphones was extremely low as well.

How exactly is it that I, a customer, setting this up for my 8 year old son, am tasked with discovering these answers now, when so many people across these forums have been having the same problems for what seems like more than a year?? Where are the alesis employees? Thank god im a musician and an audio professional, or I’m sure we’d be returning this thing right now. Given that the setup instruction manual is wrong ( first picture and subsequent are wrong, causing a complete tear down and re setup), if there’s one more problem, this thing is going back. Update your website about this at least, Alesis!!!!
