Alesis 88-KEY midi controller: Other Brands of Sustain and Volume Pedals to Use?

Alesis 88-key midi controller, new to us.
What sustain pedals and volume pedal brands will work, we are getting the controller soon. I have a few from other synths: ie. generic, yamaha dx7 and roland jv, gr.
Thanks for any help,

    • Hello,

Only a sustain pedal will work.
    • POWER QUESTION: Can you power the ALESIS Q88 or Q25 midi controllers with the supplied USB cable and a 2 prong adapter from an iphone 5vdc that goes in the wall of 110vac ?

They are all 5vdc on the 2 prong adapter and the pc USB source, which is 5v.
Sometimes you don't have a pc with you, and the adpater is not supplied.

I know the keybd is very cost competitive from the OEM, but including an adapter would be a great customer service gesture by the OEM.

Any help in the iphone 2 prong plug in connection to the USB cable would be appreciated.

  • Also for the powering of the Q25 or Q88 keybd:
The USB supply from a pc is only 5vdc ?
Why does the OEM state on the Q25 unit to use 9vdc 300 ma, is it because the 9v wall wart is not a stable source and one wants to be certain there is at least 5vdc avg. conditioned.
Thanks, I had to ck with the experts.
A nice keybd and very well designed thus far.

  • Hello,

Your power supply should be a 9V DC 500mA, pin-positive. You can purchase this part from our parts department. You can reach them at 401-658-3131 ext. 1407.

Info: Use of Alesis Q88 midi controller - Acceptable pedals for volume and sustain control:

    1. A roland ev-5, ensoniq cv, yamaha dx7 - VOLUME pedals all work well with the Q88 Alesis mdi controller.
    2. The yamaha dx7 piano sustain pedal works well with the Alesis Q88 midi controller.

Still questinging why the units are powered with : 5VDC source is acceptable from a pc USB port to power the keybds Q88 and Q25 ?

But the wall wart recommended (not supplied with teh unit from Alesis) is a 9v 500 mA size PS ?

IS it a different internal circuitry in the keyboard ?

The 9VDC wall wart must be sized higher to insure adequate voltage is supplied ?

Thx for the link to parts and I will call them to buy some wall warts, the + -positive pin on the keybd jack is slightly larger in dia and a standard 9vdc, 1A wall wart does not plug in to it.
