Alesis QS8.2 and SRAM Card

I found an SRAM card for my qs8.2 (From midi-store.com-great customer service!).

My goal was to put my most-used patches on the card so that for shows I could just use the up and down button rather than have to hunt for patches by number.
At first, I thought this was going to work great. Not yet...

I was able to do this for 5 patches on CardB, Bank 1. But I wasn't able to add any more to that bank and when I tried to write to CardB, Bank2 (or 3-8 as I think I should be able to do), the keyboard says "Not QS Bank. Use Save to Card".
Isn't that what I'm trying to do? Bank 1 has a ton of sounds on it, but once I get to B1-5, I cannot add more and none of the other banks give me access.

I understand that to format the card, you need to store something on each bank of the card (1-8). It's not letting me do this.

How can I access the other banks of the card?
I've hunted online for this stuff for a few days now, but I've not seen this particular issue. Thanks for any help you can offer. I'm almost there...

  • This is not working?

---Saving a Bank to an SRAM Card (Formatting)---

Before you can use a blank SRAM card for the first time, you must format it by storing the User Bank to each of its banks. Depending on the amount of SRAM a particular card has, up to 8 complete Banks can be stored onto it.
    1) Insert an SRAM card into the [PCMCIA EXPANSION SLOT].
    2) Press [STORE].
    3) Press [< PAGE] three times. This selects the “SAVE TO CARD” option.
    4) Use the [CONTROLLER D] slider or the [VALUE] buttons to select a bank location on the card to store to.
    5) Press [STORE] to transfer the User Bank data from the QS onto the card.

---Saving a Program or Mix to an SRAM Card---

This is done just like storing to the User Bank, except that you use the [BANK] buttons to select a card bank.
Note that the SRAM card must be formatted first (see above).

    ---Loading Banks from a Card---

The QS can access Program and Mix data directly from a card by using the [BANK] buttons. However, there may be an instance where you want to load a full bank from a card into the User Bank. Warning: this will erase the current Programs and Mixes in your User Bank.
To overwrite the User Bank with a Card bank:
1 ) Insert the card into the card slot on the back panel.
    2 ) Press [STORE].
3 ) Press [< PAGE] twice. This selects the “LOAD FROM CARD” option.

  • JSandeen- I think that I only formatted one bank of the card and now I cannot get to the other banks. So how do I start over so that I can store a bank to each CARD bank? I thought I was storing to each bank originally, but I think I was only storing to Bank 1. Now I cannot access the other banks. Is there a way to start over?

  • Is there a way to REFORMAT that card? I'm trying to save to the other banks and the Alesis is not letting me do this.

    • Thanks, but wouldn't that be 5 BANKS and not 5 sounds in Bank 1? Right now, I've got Bank 1 and it's got sounds on each patch. However, I can only overwrite the first 5 sounds. The rest in that bank won't change and the other banks won't give me access. As for the PCMCIA cards, I couldn't get a straight answer on this and was advised to go with the SRAM card.

I will ask again: Is there no way to get the card back to it's starting point?
    • Usually by re-formatting it, but the QS8.2 does not wipe out before reformatting like most hardware. Can you save user banks as card banks?

  • I can save User or Presets to only the fist 5 spots in Bank 1. Nothing else can be saved. No other banks on the card can be accessed. Is there another way to whipe the card memory other than the QS?

    • So basically, I'm out of luck? Yeah, seeing how the whole SRAM thing went, I'm just not looking to spend anymore money on that. I guess I'll just live with hunting for all the sounds during shows. That's a real drag for me. I can't believe there's no way to whipe the card without shelling out a ton of dough.
    • You shouldn't have to though, thats why Im not sure where the hang up is. Sorry I wish I had a solution to suggest BW.

  • Dang, me too. This was a two stage process. First time got the wrong card, had to send it back, got the right card but can't get it to work properly. I'm out 70.00 and have nothing to show for it. I wish there was another way to do this.
