Are the DM6 and Nitro Kit the same? What is a good DAW to use my drum kit in?

Hi guys, well, everything is in the title. But more precisely I wasn't able to get alesis support to answer me clearly about weather or not the Nitro module supports "control change" in MIDI to play half-open hi-hat.They said that the DM6 definitely doesn't but It wasn't clear about the Nitro. It would be great if one of you could help me :)Second question: what Alesis e-drum around 800€ is good for solid MIDI recording ? Basically I want it to be able to give me all the features that the module supports, but on MIDI (in cubase). That is to say: if the modules features half-open hi-hat. I want to be able to play and record it also on MIDI. Same goes for cymbal choke, or multiple zone snare drum or cymbal. I thought about the Alesis Command. Are my description clear ? :)Thanks

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting.

The Nitro/DM6 modules do not send MIDI CC messages at this time. However, I can definitely submit this to my software team as a feature request for you. These kits are the same; in fact, the Nitro Kit is essentially just a "rebranding" (if you will) of the DM6 :).

I don't have access to pricing, as this is going to be determined by your local distributor. However, all of our drum modules are excellent at being integrated with your DAW for MIDI recording and will be supported by virtually any DAW software, including Cubase.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Hi Bill,

thanks for the clear anwser. Sounds like I need a new e-drum.

To be honest thought. I am happy with the Nitro kit for practicing. But it has to be said that it is not fit for proper MIDI recording :

Even with the sensitivity of the pads at their maximum the signal inside the software it really weak. The hi-hat does not read/record half of the hits, plus the absence of hit-hat control with the left foot.

There is no harm intended though :) I am only describing my experience as a customer.

To this day, I wouldn't recommend an Alesis drum for MIDI recording purpose given my experience. So when you say that "any Alesis drum module is good for MIDI" it is actually untrue. The Nitro is not fit for leggit MIDI recording anyway.

Again no harm intended but it is important that Alesis customers know what they are buying. The Nitro is really good for a begginner willing to practice, not for a good musician willing to record.

I am actually trying to get a refund on the drum to buy a new one. That goes to show how disapointed I am with it's MIDI features :/
