DM7X - Kick died, weird issues with hihat and snare

Hi everyone. I'm having some pressing issues with my DM7X Studio I am hoping to solve.
- The most urgent -
My kick pedal(StealthKick II) just died 3 or 4 hours ago. I was playing normally and it started to become a lot less loud. In 10 minutes, complete silence. I haven't been able to make any sound come out of it since. Is it possible the trigger is already worn out? I bought this kit last december and yes, I've been using it quite frequently, say one hour per day, on average.

Also I seem to have issues with the snare and the hihat pad, which interact in some weird way. It often happens that when I hit the hihat lightly I get in return a rimshot, and no hihat sound.
For this one, I honestly have zero clues what might be.

I can live with the second issue, but of course not with the first. Is there anything I could try before i RMA the kit? I would really like to avoid that. Many thanks in advance.

  • Hi Francesco,

Sorry to hear about your issues. I'll be happy to help!

If you try using another cable from the snake with your kick pad, do you experience the same issues? Try performing a reset by holding the < and > arrow buttons simultaneously while powering on the unit. The screen will show RST--- for one second and then the module will restore back to the factory default settings.

With regards to your second set of symptoms, it sounds like you'll need to adjust your Utility settings to customize your pad settings, particularly your pad sensitivity, threshold, and crosstalk settings. To adjust the Utility settings:

    1. Hit the pad whose settings you want to adjust, or press its corresponding PAD SELECT button.

    2. Press UTILITY, then press PAGE/SELECT until the desired setting appears in the display:

    • SEN (Pad sensitivity): Controls how responsive a pad is when you hit it. The higher the value, the less forcefully you need to play to generate a loud hit.

    • THR (Pad threshold): Controls how forcefully you have to hit the pad to generate a sound. The higher the value, the harder you have to hit it.

    • CRO (Pad crosstalk): Crosstalk is the unintentional triggering of a pad when an adjacent pad is hit. The higher the value, the less likely the pad will be triggered by crosstalk.

    • CUR (Pad velocity curve): Controls the pad's dynamic response relative to the force (velocity) of your hit. The curves are shown in the APPENDIX.

    • R-S (Pad rim sensitivity): Controls how responsive a pad's rim is when you hit it.

    • S-S (Hi-Hat "splash" sensitivity): Controls how responsive the hi-hat "splash" effect is when you hit the pedal. (To create this sound, tap your foot on the pedal but lift it up immediately instead of leaving your foot down.)

    3. Use the < and > buttons to adjust the value. To save the settings, press SAVE. Otherwise, they will return to their default settings when you power the
    module off.

Try adjusting your settings and let me know how it goes!

  • Hi, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I have tried multiple jacks from the snake but the pedal is never playing anything.
Also, if I connect the kick jack to another pad, say a tom for example, the sound reproduces correctly.
So I'im inclined to think the problem is the pedal itself, not something else. I also tried a reset just in case but to no avail.

And thanks for the idea to adjust bleeding and sensitivity, I'll try to play with it if I menage to repair the pedal.

  • Sorry to hear you're still having issues. It sounds like the issue may be with the pedal itself. Please log on to www.alesis.com/support for further assistance with your symptoms. You can find their contact information on that page.

    Good luck!

  • I'm having the same issue with my hi hat triggering my snare rim. I've done a factory reset adjusted crosstalk threshold sensitivity I've even stuffed the arm with socks to try to muffle the vibration but continue having the same problem... Please help it's ridiculously annoying I don't know how Francesco says he can live with it because I can't
