I’m undecided, just like to know what I'm buying

DM8 Module preset quality

Hi Alesis crew,

I've noticed that a lot of reviews mention the 16bit uncompressed quality of the preset samples when referring to the DM10's features. However I'm looking at a kit with the DM8 module and would like to know if the preset samples are of the same 16bit uncompressed quality? this is not mentioned anywhere I look in regards to the DM8 module's features.

Are they 16bit uncompressed samples on the DM8?
Or is this one of the trade-offs to going DM8 rather than the DM10!?

Cheers,
Tony from N.Z.

  • The samples in the DM8 are similar to and the same quality as the DM10.

The DM8 does not have all the features, inputs, controls, etc that are found on the DM10.

  • Hi Alesis crew (David),

I appreciate and am aware that the DM8 does lack some of the features of the DM10 as you would expect being a lesser/ cheaper module.

However my question was (Are they 16bit uncompressed samples on the DM8?)
So "similar to and the same quality as the DM10" meaning they are 16bit uncompressed on the DM8 !?

I have to say your documentation and available information in regards these DM8 & DM10 kits is lacking considerable detail and is some what vague at times.

I have now purchased the DM8 pro fusion kit and have found a number of things a little disappointing. The instructions for set-up weren't the clearest and once assembled there was a cable not included which was vital for the dual zone DMpad cymbals to function. It wasn't missing, just not included. these cables (should be x2) run from both cymbals to perc1 & perc2 inputs at the back of the module, only one is supplied.

I would have thought these vital cables for the cymbals connectivity and function would have been included within the cable snake itself, leaving perc1 & perc2 inputs free for expanding and connecting other extras. Hmmmm food for thought!

I have now after returning to the outlet I purchased the DM8 from, I was supplied with a generic TRS cable that fixed the issue. Set-up the kit despite the vague instruction and inconvenience of a lack of cabling. Its all good, hopefully everything will be sweat from here.

But more detailed specifications and clear information would have been helpful in making an informed decision at the start. I think my decision to buy the DM8 knowing what I know now would have been the same, but I did have some questions about the kit that there was no information available to answer, so did make this decision a little un informed. But so far so good!

    Cheers,
