Does the Nitro Module send anything for Crash Mute?

My Nitro Module works great as a stand alone unit. I have the Cymbals setup correctly. The Crash Mute functions fine internally so everything is setup correctly.

Again, it works fine internally but midi information is missing, as the crash mute sends Note C#2 just as it sends when you hit the Crash which also sends C#2. All the time it works with the headphones plugged into the unit. I'm trying to confirm that this is normal operation and provide this detail to the community so we don't keep asking.

Here is the mapping I get from the module.

Kick C1
Snare D1
Tom 1 C2
Tom 2 A1
Tom 3 G1
Tom 4 F1 (Addon Tom)
Hi Hat A#1
Closing Hat G#1
Closed Hat F#1
Crash C#2
Crash Mute C#2 (Crash Mute sends same note as crash/Incompetancy galore)
Ride D#2
Crash 2 A2 (Addon Cymbal / can be used for Mute)

  • Hi Geof,

    Thanks for posting.

What you've described and are experiencing is correct. The Nitro module's crash can be muted. However, because the crash is a single-zone cymbal, there is no MIDI information that will be sent from the module when choking. However, I'll be happy to submit this to my software team as a feature request for you.

It is not Single zone. It is very specific that we have 2 single zone cymbals and 1 dual zone. If it was not a dual zone cymbal, my statement about the crash mute working fine on the internal sounds would clarify that it is dual zone. . It wouldn't work correctly if it didn't have dual zone. The issue is that the system doesn't send a different note out for it, but it works fine on the internal sounds. So yes, it is dual zone or it wouldn't work with the internal sounds. This is a software / firmware issue and probably be design that they want us to buy a more expensive module to get that feature. I mean it was super cheap.

The answer is most likely that, by design, the corporation decided they would send out the Same C#2 note instead of sending a different note so that we will buy a more expensive module. I guarantee that in the code they very specifically chose to send the C#2. It's just not possible to be that incompetent to miss this. It is possible that the competency is going toward making more money on a different module.

I just wish you could give me an answer and tell people on the message board that the Nitro does not send out the crash mute, even when you have a dual zone cymbal that works as dual zone on the internal sounds.

My youtube video will contain each answer you have given me and my synopsis and opinion on the device. In every message I sent you I explained that the dual zone is working fine, but in both responses I get no answer on the following question.

Is the Nitro supposed to send out a C#2 or can we fix this to be a different note without firmware change?

I know it can be done in the firmware with one single tiny change in in the software of 3 characters. Not something hard to do at all if you have the source code.

Hoping for an answer to my actual question and not another statement telling me I don't have a dual zone trigger, which I do, and is proven by the internal sounds.

  • I watched the dump over USB MIDI and the choke seems to send aftertouch events.

  • See this post in the REAPER forum. The crash sends one poly aftertouch message.
