  • This is good news since it appears the Crimson, Forge and Command all share the same "brain". Any specifics on the tweaks? I have the Crimson with an extra crash, and would like to upgrade the hihat setup. Have yet to pull the trigger (pun intended) as a decent hihat stand and pro x is a lot of money should it not work properly.

  • Bought a Pro x ($100) and a Ludwig Atlas Standard hi hat stand ($85) for my Crimson set. First, I'm a lifelong musician but newbie drummer beyond drum programming. Had the Crimson for a year or so and play it at least a couple hours a week.

The main thing you will be tweaking is getting the Pro-X to splash or close properly. I tried lots of trigger settings, but nothing seems to really wake up the splash, which was kinda hit or miss. What got it working better was physically playing with stuff: First I swapped out the original Pro X hi hat top with the one that came with my Crimson. The Pro x top is hard plastic and sucks. Makes a good extra cymbal for other stuff though. Next, I added some padded tape to the bottom of the backside of the original Crimson hi hat cymbal so it would close evenly. Then I removed the larger bottom circular pad on the hi hat stand and double sided sticky taped the spring to the bottom of the hi hat clutch. These mods kept the spring from making "springy sounds" as it flopped around loose, and added more "shock" to the sensor that triggers a splash when you mash the pedal down. Finally I set the hi hat so there's about a 1" gap. Would prefer a little less that that, but any less and it still doesn't splash as reliably as I'd like.

I figure these tweaks are things that would apply to anyone using the Pro x regardless of E drum set or controller they are using. Now the Pro x actually works pretty good with my Crimson set. If I could get the gap down a little, it would be better, but I'm glad I took the $185 risk to try it out. Gonna keep playing with trigger settings and see if I can make even more improvements that way as well...

    Cheers. -Jamison

  • I have a Forge Kit and received a Pro x Hi-Hat today. I put it on a DW Pacific hi-hat stand using the stand's clutch with the Pro X's locating nut. I sandwiched the upper cymbal between a small felt pad on top and bottom in the clutch. It is working well and provides open, mid and closed sensing, and will splash. I am going to see about some adhesive rubber padding to deaden the pad a bit, though it isn't too bad as it is.
Here are the settings I have used:

  • Awesome WW. I'll have to try those settings. I didn't do much with settings as I wasn't sure what was what I guess. The couple of attempts at tweaking had me resetting as I made it worse than default. Don't forget to give the original cymbal a shot. It can be made to work and it's much quieter. I've been playing this thing like crazy the past couple weeks. Dig it. My modded Crimson:
