Hi Hat Bow Mutes Edge in Firmware 1.4

Strike Firmware 1.4
Open hi hat
Hit the edge hard
Lightly hit the bow
Notice how the edge sound is basically muted, and the bow takes over.

It sounds very unnatural.

I checked the other cymbals and they don't seem to do this. Just seems to be the hi hat.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting.

It sounds like you may need to make some adjustments to your triggers' utility settings. What do you have the trigger sensitivity, threshold, and curve set to? Does this happen with every kit on your module?

    • More than likely you need the pedal to stop both.It would be nice if there was a mute target option.I mainly use the module for a TMI and use software that can take one midi note and send out/route multiple notes for controlling multiple pieces of gear/software/lighting.
I don't think there is any control with muting on the module. It's either on or off.
I see there are priority settings, but that may be for over all performance and not mute group related.
I'll connect a hi hat tomorrow and also check in the forum I belong to and see if anyone else has the same issue.
    • I did find that my saved presets did not have the hi hats in a mute group, but the new presets do.

I haven't tested enough to know which is better overall though.

  • I am currently using OSv1.3 with the v1.4 content.I needed to be able to see the zones/strikes as I build/test my own triggers etc.The tiny kit/rug/spotlight is worthless for stage/performing.

+1 but I have not updated to the v1.4 OS or content for only this reason. Please bring back as an option the Kit menu that shows separate zones.

  • I noticed it immediately when upgrading to 1.4 after playing 1.3 for 6 months. I find the hi-hat in general triggers much better but the subtlest bow hit even a ghost rebound muting the edge ring while fully open is driving me crazy.

  • At least I know I'm not alone on this! Has anyone fixed this on their hi hat? If so, would you let me know what your settings are? This would be a good starting point for me, being new to this type of electronic drum set this will help me immensely! I open up the triggering page on the module and I'm like"WTF"!
I sold my acoustic drum set due to the noise and being isolated from everyone in the house. I then bought a cheap $300 electronic set and played that until it was time to treat myself to an upgrade, and the Strike Pro Kit is definitely an upgrade!

  • Hi again,

Thought I'd pop in and let you know. I updated to 1.4 last night.... For now I've reverted back to 1.3.

1.4 was loaded and suddenly the Hi Hat suffered the muting that is experienced by users in this thread.

In the MIDI settings for the all preset sounds (not just the new presets) - the Bow, Edge and Pedal "Mute Group" is (are now) set to 1 by default. This causes the issue with the Edge being muted by the Bow.

Change this setting to "Off" for all of the Hi Hat triggers and the muting issue is resolved. Save as a User Kit.

I wound back the Firmware and Triggers to 1.3 and rolled back the preset content to 1.3 as well - This at least changed back the Mute Group settings for the 1.3 presets.

All I have to do now is save the 1.4 presets with the amended Mute Group setting to off and save as a user preset.

Is there a list of the new Kit names for the 1.4 content?

If there's a 1.5 update (just sayin' :p ) Can the Mute Group for the Hi Hats please be set to Off by default?

    Thanks again!

The first 17 kits should cover it...

    001-Birch Rock
    002-Birch Rock Xst
    003-Birch Gate004-Birch Slap
    005-Pop Maple
    006-Pop Maple Xst
    007-Natural Maple
    008-Natural Maple Xst
    009-PowerStation Natural
    010-PowerStation Fatty
    011-PowerStation Bite
    012-PowerStation Nat2
    013-Power Cell AAA
    014-BeBop Jazz
    015-BeBop Latin
    016-BigBand Jazz
    017-Vintage Sm Room

    v1.4 added 15 New kits..including 2 more PowerStation Kits
v1.3 added the first 2 PowerStation Kits...(I think it was Natural and Fatty)
    The remaining kits are re-ordered from the v1.2 Kit/Instrument list...which didn't have a Kit #114 or 115..
