I’m confused & frustrated

How do I connect my SR18 to play through my macbook pro (garage band)?

I'm trying to hear my drum machine but I can't. I bought a midi to USB cable but my mac isn't recognizing the SR18 when I connected it. I'm trying to play the drum machine through my computer but now I don't know if that's possible or not?

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting.

How exactly do you want to use you SR18 with your computer? Do you just want the audio from your SR18 to play through your computer's speakers, or do you want to input the MIDI data into Garage Band? If so, you will need to be using a MIDI interface with the SR18 connected from the MIDI Out port. To configure your SR18 to send MIDI data out to the interface please check out this thread.

If you're trying to play audio from the SR18 to the speakers, I don't think this would be possible, as the Macbook Pro only has a headphone jack, which can't accept audio coming in.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you Bill. This is very helpful. I was trying to do both. I don't have the MIDI interface so I will have to buy that. My sound system is wireless so I currently have no way to connect the SR18 to it.

Would be cool if the the next versions have wifi/bluetooth options for audio.
