How do I get the Mix In to work on the DM6 Kit?

I want to use my CD and PC library input to a DM6 kit to play along to! How do I get the Mix IN to function?

  • Hello,

Thanks for the post. You can connect the output of an external audio source, such as a CD player, to this stereo 1/8" input. Turn up your Aux device and it should play out through your Stereo Output.

The Alesis DM6 USB Kit has a MIX input? This is a small 3/8 jack. How can I take output from my PC sound card / headphone out jack. and use as an input to the DM6 kit - so as to play along with the music of my choice?

Can I just use the headphone out jack of my computer straight to the DM6 MIX IN jack? I tried this! No music! "If" this method is correct, how do you turn on the mixer input so the sound (my pc library music) comes in my ears - via the head phones connected on the DM6 unit head phone jack?

Or; am I just wishful thinking, and; this cannot be done?

OK!... ! spend a big $4.50 + tax (about $5.00) to test what I thought should work!

    I bought:
1.) cheap second pair of headset at 99 cent store - $1.50
2.) cheap head set splitter at 99 cent store - $1.00
3.) Two (2) 4 foot cords with 3/8 jacks on each end at 99 cent store - 2.00
4.) Tax on the above junk at the 99 cent store - Forget what it was.
Anyway; The total was about $5.00 out the door from the 99 cent store!

Off I drove like Mad max to test my theory - In my 2002 Kia Rio Cinco 5 Speed!

    The setup:

Headset splitter into DM6 headphone out and 1 pair headset in each jack - note: I had one pair headset already. So we got two headsets in the DM6 Headphone out.

One end 4' cable #1 into my PC audio out jack, other end into DM6 Mixer IN jack.

One end 4" cable #2 into my PC Mic. In. jack, other end into DM6 Output jack.

Tested the theory! Tadaaaaaaaaa! It worked!

I can now play my DM6 kit to the music "I" want to play to, my 15+ Gb of stuff - on my PC, and; record it with my audio recorder! And; the better half can listen too!

No low levels, no hums and no USB (no driver) hassles!

So what caused my original problems of hum and low levels? I think; bad cables! I can't think of anything else. Bottom line is all is now well with the world, me and my trusty Alesis DM6 Kit - and my better half. No neighbors BS to deal with! Ahhhhhh. Life is good! Time for a brew.

I just started lessons and got a dm6 kit for Christmas. I want to play along with my favorite songs on my iphone or ipad mini but I can't figure out how to do it. Help, I'm really frustrated and not tech savvy!
