How do I get the rim to work on the snare?

How do I get the rim to work on the snare? I have a Burst kit and when you hit the rim there is no sound and the light doesn't light. The snare works fine. I have it set on Kit 1. Maybe the rim is turned off on that setting? If so how do I turn it on?

  • Hi Dana,

    Thanks for posting.

Try reinitializing your module by powering on while holding the + and - buttons. This will restore the factory settings, erasing any recorded data or changed settings, including userkits, the user pattern, and any volume, metronome, or voice settings, which will return to their defaults. If that still doesn't work then adjust the volume of individual pads relative to each other. Follow the instructions below on how to adjust your individual pads volume:

    1. Press Voice.
    2. Then press Volume.
    3. Strike the pad you would like to adjust.
    4. Then use the + and - buttons to adjust the volume of the individual pad.
    5. To adjust another pad, strike that pad, and repeat step 4 above.

  • I too am having this same issue just bought the set & no sound or rim light. Tried posted suggestions and nothing. Is it possible I have a bad pad or DM6 unit?

  • This set is brand new and started with factory settings. However, I tried the reset and it didn't help. I can't adjust the sound because it doesn't register that I am even hitting the rim. Called customer service and was sent a new snare, but the problem is still there. Could it be the module?

    • I called and was told that this is a single zone snare and that the rim is not meant to play. I don't have the packaging and the website doesn't specify the workings of the snare, so I'm not sure if I was misled with the purchase or lied to with the phone call. Either way it's pretty disappointing.
    • I looked back at the website because I knew I saw that the snare was dual zone somewhere. The frequently asked questions knowledge base for Burst Kit lists a 8 inch dual zone snare (see here http://www.alesis.com/kb/search/burst) , but when you click to open that article it is changed to 9 inch snare drum. Also on product spec pages list 9 inch snare drum. I also looked back a the product review on a couple sites I looked at listed the 8 inch dual zone snare description that they obviously copied and pasted from the alesis website. I have a very disappointed son.

  • I’m frustrated
My son also got this set for practice this Christmas. I have been trying to figure this issue out without finding a resolution. He plays in band and in some of the songs the snare rim is required on the piece. I have not contacted the company yet since I have been hoping to resolve this issue without having to send it back. Any Info will be appretiated!
