How to make the photon x25 work on Windows 7

I bought a Photon x 25 because I wanted a cheap second hand good midi keyboard and experienced some trouble making it work for windows 7 professional 64bit.

I managed to make it work by doing the following

1. Download and install Windows Virtual PC and the 'Run in XP mode' extension from the Microsoft website.

2. create and run a XP virtual drive,

3. download the USB fix from the Alesis site (under doc and downloads) inside the virtual drive

4. install the firmware update onto the keyboard. Please note you must make the photon accessible in the XP virtual drive. It is one of the drop down options at the top of the screen.

5. Turn the photon off and close the Virtual PC emulation.

6. Once back in Windows 7 turn on the Photon and install drivers as normal.

I hope this is of use to anyone with the same problem I experienced- I couldn't find a fix anywhere on the net
