I purchased Alesis Nitro in Oct 2016. Since day 1, we feel that sound coming from Ride and Hi-Hat is very low. Sound coming from other pads are OK.
If I press the Ride and Hi-hat buttons on command module - then I'm getting quite OK sound from both these pads - just that hitting them doesn't get the same volume of sound.
-
I had/have the same issue and the only way I found to resolve it to build a custom kit with the sensitivity and volumes maxed out.
I tried lots of different things, but maybe someone else has some "magic" for us to try. -

Hello,
Thanks for posting.
While the Nitro Kit is ready to play out of the box, there are usually some adjustments that need to be made on the module in order for it to respond to your style of playing. Check out this article here that will walk you through how to improve the response from your pads - Alesis Nitro Kit - Adjusting Trigger Settings For Optimal Performance- view 1 more comment

Yes, it sounds like this may be a cable issue then. Please get in touch with your nearest Support Office or connect with your international distributor for assistance with this.

did you fix your problem Mayank?

i'm also having this EXACT problem, the Hi-Hat is extremely quiet, the ride is also quieter to a lesser extent, i've been trying to find a solution all day...i should have bought a Roland instead :(
also, the whole drum isnt really loud to begin with, so its even worse because of that -
-
With local support from retailer/distributer, I was able to test this problem with new command module - but this didn't solve the problem. Response from drums is exactly same as before. Shuffling cables did work. So planning to get a replacement snake cables and test again.
-
-
I have this problem too, more so with the hi-hat than the trigger, but both of those symbols are less responsive than the drum pads. I've gone through the process of adjusting the pads at least three times now, per Bill R's instructions above. No noticeable improvement.

Thanks to the support team, I was sent a new cable set. That seems to have improved the problem completely with the ride (I mistakenly wrote “trigger” in my initial comment); there’s some improvement in the hi-hat, but I still feel that, even with sensitivity maxed out, I have two wack it too hard. With headphones, the sound of the stick hitting the hi hat is almost louder than the electronically produced sound. I’ll still play around with controls, etc, but may have to build a complete customer set.

That’s “custom” set...

I just bought a Nitro kit and have the exact problem, I'm not hearing there is a proper solution to this. I want to request something to fix this problem. If it is not fixable than I will want to return the product.
Who do I contact to determine if a proper fix is available?-
You can contact our Technical Support team by logging on to www.alesis.com/support. Their contact information will be listed on that page.

Cliff, Alesis support has been very helpful to me so far in trying to solve this problem. That being said, my issue is not solved yet. But they are trying. Contact Alesis support through their webpage. The problem, though sadly fairly common, doesn’t seem to be universal, so I still have hope

There doesn't seem to be a solution as yet. Ask for new set of cables which has improved situation for one of the fellows in this thread.

A replacement cable snake didn’t completely solve my problem. It improved the response of the ride cymbal but not the hi hat. Support is sending me a replacement module now with the assumption that that is the source of the problem. We’ll see.

I bought this for my triplets to learn to play drums. It is a large distraction and has lost some of the excitement for them. I entered a support form but didn't know were to find the serial number of the unit.

I just found it and tested cable swapping as support contacted me. I've determined the cymbal pads work just find with when swapping cables. Either the hi hat and crash 2 cables are bad or the controller is.
I did notice and tested that if i tap the end of the cables with my wedding ring the sound on the hi hat and crash 2 are nowhere near as loud as the other items. If I press the Hi Hat and crash 2 buttons it's not too bad. So it looks like cable or controller. -

Have you tried adjusting your sensitivity or threshold settings? If so, and you're experiencing the same issue, please proceed with contacting our Support Team.

I still have not received the harness to try.. I'm on vacation now for a couple weeks. when I get back I'll give this one more shot and if it doesn't sound like it should I will also be returning the kit.

I just assembled the kit and found that the Hi Hat and Ride are very quiet. I'm thinking about putting it back in the box and shipping it back for refund.
What say all of your? Has anyone achieved positive results??
I wish I would have searched for issues with the kit prior to buying!- view 4 more comments

What gets me is this should be able to be fixed with a simple software/firmware upgrade.
-

Send it back! It has a big flaw that will never work the way it should and you will regret it if you don't.

I set my kit up yesterday and have the same problem with the ride and hi hat as everyone else described, adjusted settings, etc, sound is fine when you press the hi hat and ride buttons on the console, lousy when you hit the hi hat and ride. I researched and found so many great reviews of this kit, ( with no mention of the ride/hi hat problem ) but I never would have bought it if I had known this was a common issue with no apparent decent fix as of yet.

I am having identical problems with a Nitro kit bought last December for a Christmas present. High hat and ride far too quiet. Spent a lot of time fiddling with the sensitivity etc etc. Also played around with the cable which shows that it is either the cable harness or the controller.
Have tried contacting Alesis support and twice the support form appears not to have sent. I think maybe last time it did go through without an attachment.
Hopefully they can sort it otherwise it will have to go back. Amazon will have a pile of them I think! -
-
I too am confounded and discouraged by the silence of the Alesis company on this issue. This is clearly a huge and systemic problem (which I, personally think has to do mostly with the module's programming). Why is the Alesis company not addressing it as the wide-ranging problem that it is?? I have worked with support and have had a modest degree of success - only after a replacement cable snake, a replacement module and a replacement hi-hat pad. But I still have to max out the pad and utility settings to get a reasonable volume on the hi-hat.
-
-
We shouldn't have to go through all this to have "a modest degree of success". It has a flaw and and that is unacceptable. Send them back. You should be able to expect your kit to work as expected when it is purchased.

Absolutely Susan - there is no grey area here.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Susan, you’re free to do what you wish, and I hope you agree that I have that same freedom. I have decided to keep my kit because of the enjoyment it affords me. I will decide what is acceptable to me, thank you. Apparently I don’t quite share your level of frustration but I do think that Alesis has been dropping the ball on this issue, and I’ve said so. Since you’ve quoted my comment it’s hard not to take your words personally. I’ve shared my frustration and experience here and in an Amazon review. Please point your anger at the source, Alesis, not a fellow customer.

Thank you Susan, I very much appreciate your comment. I completely understand your frustration, and I really do sympathize with it. What kit did you wind up getting?
-

I bought a Roland td-1kv. It has less features but is much more stable. I got the mesh head snare which I like very much. It was twice as expensive though which was doubly frustrating.

I have the same problem with Hi-Hat and Ride... Could this be a defective batch? I did extensive research and if this was common issue then I doubt it would have gotten great reviews... I am still deciding whether to return the kit or contact support.
-
Send it Back - I went through Amazon Customer support and it is now taken care of. There is no fix that is equal to the performance of all the components on the kit. I will spend a few bucks more for something that works the way it should.
Best of luck,
Jamie. -
-
Yes Jamie, I am with you 100%. The performance is not acceptable and I cut my losses, returned it and paid more and got a fully functional kit that works like it should. I would never have purchased it in the first place had I known.

Definitely contact support, at least initially. I eventually got satisfaction. But yes, there is something wrong with those cymbal levels and it's not a small or isolated problem.
-

I am sure everyone has tried all the settings but if not have a go in particular with the curves. Press UTILITY 4 times. It should show CUR if not keep pressing until it does.
When on CUR tap the hi hat(the hi hat light on the controller will come on) and then use the side arrow buttons to select eg 005 or 006 Then press save.
These curves bring the volume up much quicker when you tap them.
It's not the whole answer but might help a little if you've not tried it yet.
I'm waiting for Alesis to offer some solution as I have played with lots of settings and don't think I can do any more.
(Edited to read hi hat instead of snare - brain freeze!)-
fantastic! that really helped. thanks!

Just for those still struggling with this... I went through all the options with the Alexis importer and they acknowledged the problem and told me to speak to Amazon who I bought it off originally.
Amazon were great and sent a whole new kit out. I took the controller and cymbal out and put the duff ones back and sent the box back.
And yes the new controller sorted out 90 % of the problem. I think as supplied it is now a bit quiet but easy to tweak this up in the settings.
Got there eventually! -

So after waiting two months (!) I finally got a cable snake replacement. First off, the hi hat controller has a 3.5.mm jack. The new cable snake has a 1/4 inch jack. So right away that is no good. I connected the rest of it anyway to check and still have the same problem, low hi hat, ride, and ( as I discovered while speaking with Alesis support 2 months ago) low kick drum sound. So no fix. I'm really not happy about this and am in no mood to wait another 2 months for another part that may not resolve the problem. A return seems very likely.

I've played many electronic sets everyone has the same problem with the ride to fix this I pan my ride to the left and the rest of the kit to the right I got a small two channel mixer and Set the master volume high .I than turn the kit side. Down. Works for me, but I still don't understand why they can't make the volume higher

Wow, I can’t believe I’m only now finding this support thread. I’ve been pushing through this exact same issue for nearly a year now, assuming I was somehow to blame for not learning to tweak my hi hat settings or maybe damaged it. From the look of things, calling support won’t help much.
Has anyone thought of upgrading their hi hat to something like the alesis pro x hi hat?
I’ve upgraded my snare to a mesh one for fairly cheap and I’m in love with my kit again. Hoping that a cymbal upgrade would resolve this...
