Multimix 4 USB hiss from Main Output

I need a mixer for live performance. Connect the Main Output of the MultiMix 4 USB to my bass amp with a quality instrument (TS) cable, power up the MultiMix with no inputs connected, all gains fully down, channel levels fully down, Main Vol fully down. Power up bass amp and raise level to normal volume. With any increase in Main Vol level, a high level of hiss comes from the mixer.

What, if anything, can be done?

  • Hello, Rick

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time with your mixer setup. I would recommend using a TRS cable, not a TS cable, and make sure you are using a powered monitor like an Alto TS312 for example.

Here is a link for a reference:

Bass amps are not the best speaker for the job if you are trying to run multiple things through a mixer, they are qualified for electric bass guitars.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Criss,

For what connection are you recommending TRS vs TS cable? Input? Main out? The Quick Start Guide indicates using "standard 1/4" cables" on the Main Outputs (6). Are you suggesting the Main Outputs provide for balanced or unbalanced connections? How are they normalled? I'm using bass guitar, hard and soft synths with unbalanced outputs.

As for using a bass amp, since I'm mainly a bass guitarist looking to add hard and soft synths to my setup, my bass amp is exactly what I want to be running through. In fact, I'm EQing all my instruments with that in mind.

Do you have a link to the User's Guide? All I seem to have on hand is a PDF of the Quick Start Guide.

    Thanks,
    Rick

  • Hello, Rick

You only mentioned a TS cable going into your Bass amp from your mixer, so make sure you are using TRS cables from your mixers main outputs.

This is a passage from the User Guide :

Here is a link to the User guide on our web site:

You can use an Instrument cable for your inputs (TS.) Your bass and synths are sending a Mono signal so this is what you should be using. If you continue to get a hiss from your mixer, make sure the mixer is plugged into a surge protector and test it with a different amp to see if you get the same response.

    Hope this helps!
