Multimix 4 USB (not FX) setup problems

Hello. I'm trying to setup my Alesis Multimix 4 USB (not the FX version) with Windows 10. The problems I'm facing are:

1. What should the various sound setups be in Windows 10, e.g. recording, playback, levels, etc?
2. I have a permanent delay in the region of 50ms between instrument and sound coming out of the PC.
3. I can only find a manual for the newer "Multimix 4 USB FX" device and not the "Multimix 4 USB" device.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Hi Henry,

    Thanks for posting.

    1. Under both your Playback and Recording tabs, select USB Audio Codec as the default device. Check out my image below from the user guide that will walk you through the audio setup. While Windows 10 setup is not mentioned specifically, the same steps under the Windows Vista section will be applicable.

    2. If you're experiencing delay in your sound output, this would indicate symptoms of latency. Latency refers to the time it takes the computer to respond to input.  If latency is high, signals routed into the computer and back out to speakers or headphones may be audibly delayed. Every recording program has an options, settings or preferences page where the user can adjust the buffer size. Buffer size governs the amount of time the computer is given to respond to requests (for audio processing in this case).  The larger the buffer size, the more time the computer has to respond.  Large buffer sizes allow the computer to handle more work without choking.  This prevents pops, clicks, chattering and skipping caused by an overloaded processor, but at the cost of higher latency.  Smaller buffer sizes reduce the overall amount of work the computer can handle, but it can do so with lower latency. Refer to this helpful article regarding how to optimizing your system, improve performance, and manage latency.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.
