Need help getting off the ground with recording - cable to use and advice - Alesis Compactkit 7 to Focusrite Scarlett 18i8

I have an Alesis CompactKit 7 and I want to record with a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8. What cable do I use to plug directly into the Focusrite DAW? USB (from Alesis) to Midi (on DAW)?

  • Hi Joel,

    Thanks for posting.

If you want to record your CompactKit 7 to your DAW/computer, you can connect a standard 1/4" instrument cable to one of the inputs on your interface from the CompactKit 7's headphone output. Alternatively, you may also use a USB to MIDI cable. If you choose to go with the first method, you will only need to create a new audio track within your DAW. If going for the latter method, you will need to create a new MIDI track within your DAW.

    I hope this helps!

  • Thanks so much for that Bill!

I'll just get a standard 1/4" instrument cable then! Nice. I was actually having a little trouble finding a USB to Midi cable for some reason. Instrument cable much easier.

Hopefully no sound quality difference. Cheers.
