Nitro Kit hi-hat will not trigger half-open sounds

Hi. I LOVE the Nitro and think it is a great and flexible kit. However, my hi-hat is only on or off....even says it on the pedal. It doesn't go half open. What am my missing?

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting.Does this happen across every kit? Have you gotten this to work properly before?

Let's have you perform a factory reset on your Nitro Kit. To do this, hold the < and > arrow buttons simultaneously while powering on the unit. The screen will show "RST---" for one second and then the module will restore back to the factory default settings and be ready to use.

Let's also have you through and adjust your utility settings, particularly your sensitivity, threshold, and hi-hat splash sensitivity (indicated by S-S on the module). Follow these steps below to do this:

I would also recommend performing a MIDI test to ensure the pedal is transmitting MIDI data properly.

    MIDI Troubleshooting

    Windows

    1. Download the free MIDI OX software here: http://www.midiox.com/moxdown.htm
    2. Click Options from the top menu, and select MIDI Devices
    3. Click on your device under MIDI Inputs, and then click OK
    4. Now press a key, knob, slider in question. You should now see incoming data.

    Mac

    1. Download, and Install MIDI Monitor
    2. Open MIDI Monitor.
    3. Click on the Sources tab to view MIDI devices. Confirm that your USB/MIDI device is listed.
    4. Once you confirm your MIDI device is connected and listed. Play any key(s) on your keyboard/controller to confirm each button or key is sending data to your computer.

You should now see incoming data.

Let me know how this goes.

  • The kit is advertised as having this feature. I ordered it from Amazon today, if it doesn't work it will be going back. I will have it tomorrow. We shall see

  • for the open hat you have to press the pedal at the beginning

  • Maybe this should go in a different/new thread, but since it is also hi-hat related, I thought I'd add it here:

    - I'm trying to figure out the best way to get a splash from the hi-hat pedal, versus a closed sound from the pedal. Also, if there are settings changes that make this more controllable.

(Right now, I can get a splash sound only by working just the base of the pedal. So maybe I am just not hitting and releasing fast enough for the current splash settings?)

As a side note, I'm also not totally sure I'm getting a separate sound when hitting the hi-hat with the pedal at a halfway position. Sometimes it seems to be a half-closed sound, but not always....
