Nitro Mesh Kit MIDI cutsout in a few seconds to a minute or so...

Nitro Mesh Kit... MIDI disconnects after a few seconds to a minute. Whats happening? I used MIDI-ox to troubleshoot and when it is connected it has this constant stream of input just scrolling up (see image)... is this normal. Then after a few seconds to a minute or so... it just stops.

  • I mean this looks to me like a memory dump. I think what's happening is that your computer memory, virtual memory MAY be set up incorrectly OR that your MIDI settings MAY have a setting related to memory allocation, etc... I mean it just looks like the MIDI signal is getting routed correctly and then running out of steam/memory. Turn off any screensavers completely and any USB devices that may be competing for and grabbing up your memory OR MIDI. That signal is stopping because something is stopping it. That signal is going somewhere OR somewhere else? Stopping. Hmmm... Alesis also had either a General MIDI or MIDI CTRL setting in it's menu layers, maybe something there? Your SEND Channel getting taken by some other default setting taking back over! Something like that...

  • Hi Neil,

Sorry you're having issues with your Nitro Kit.

Do you experience this same issue with your module if you use a different USB cable? If so, you may need to service the module.

Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum, but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Alesis Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Hi Bill & Joseph,

So are saying that the constant stream of input is not normal? Cause when I test my MIDI keyboard, it only shows input when I strike the keys. The Nitro also show strike inputs in green when hit but that constant yellow input stream is always that way until it stops.

My main DAW PC is an intel i7 3.4ghz with 16gb ram and SSD hardrive just to get that out of the way.

Here are a few troubleshooting I have done:

    1. As I was using a USB extension cable. I tried a standard length cable and another cable just to make sure, but the stream is still there although I have yet to observe it stop. I had to get the module out and disconnect everything except power cause the PC is too far from the kit. I will try it again with the whole kit installed later today.

    2. I have connected it via USB to a macbook with nothing else connected to it. The stream is also present and also yet to observe cutout.

    3. I have factory reset the module (< > + power on). Still the same.

Will update again as soon as I can connect the kit to the main pc with a short cable. Unless that constant stream is considered abnormal then we probably have a bad module.

  • Hi guys, thanks for the responses. So just to update, it does seem to be the extension USB cable that's causing the midi drop outs. I have managed to move the kit closer to the pc so it just need a standard length USB cable. After that everyting seems fine. Managed to play and stay connected the whole day to ezdrummer2 or via DAW (ezdrummer2). For now I would consider this solved. Thanks again. Hope this helps someone else experiencing same issues.
