I’m frustrated

No sound on the Alesis Recital without the headphones

I've had my Alesis Recital for about a year. I've used it mainly with headphones and now it won't work without them. The sound is fine with the headphones, but no sound without. I have the volume turned all the way up and have tried holding down the reverb/chorus buttons while powering it on. Nothing but again, it works with the headphones. Any idea how to fix this? (Edited) After spending half the day at Guitar Center, I finally fished out an old pair of computer speakers and hooked them up to the keyboard via the headphone outlet. It works but the sound is pretty bad. I think a better set of speakers would help but I shouldn't have to do this in the first place. I feel like I paid $200 for a piece of junk.

  • Hi Jane,

    Thanks for posting.

Just to confirm, there is no sound coming out of the built-in speakers? Does this occur with your headphones unplugged? Can you confirm that your master volume is set to an adequate level? If you connect speakers to the RCA outputs on the back, do you hear output?

  • Confirming, there is no sound coming out of the built in speakers. Yes, this occurs with my headphones unplugged. The master volume is turned all the way up and the sound works WITH the headphones. If I connect speakers to the RCA outputs, there is still no sound. However, I have rigged speakers to the headphone jack and that works. Very distorted sound, but it works. Thanks for getting back to me. I'm a piano teacher and pretty frustrated with this. I bought it last September through Amazon so it should still be under warranty. Thanks.

  • Sorry you're still having issues, Jane.

It sounds like your product may need to be serviced. Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum, but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Alesis Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Hello,

While the Recital has a single external volume know, there are a number of user adjustable settings that can also affect the volume. You may have accidentally lowered one of the internal volume or sensitivity settings.

To restore your Recital to the factory default settings, hold the Reverb and Chorus buttons while powering on the Recital.

The following parameters will be reset to their default values: Reverb, Chorus, Metronome Tempo, Metronome Time Signature, Metronome Volume, Upper Volume, Lower Volume, Split Volume, Split Point, MIDI Channel, Touch Sensitivity, and Auto Power Off.
