I’m frustrated

Why aren't my rim shots consistently hitting on my DM6?

When using the Rim Snare in combination with the Hi-Hat, it doesn't always make a sound each time I hit it - at first I thought it was a defective Rim Snare, however the warranty replacement I received is even worse than the original - instead of one miss every 30 hits, now it's one miss every 10 hits....what causes the Rim Snare to not make a sound when you hit it? Interference from the Hi-Hat? A defective Controller Module? Or something else?

Thanks,

Scott

  • Hello Scott,

Thanks for the post. I'd like to help! Let make sure that your volume for the snare is correctly adjusted. Experiment this until you find a volume that suits you.

    1. Press Voice.
    2. Then press Volume.
    3. Strike the pad you would like to adjust.
    4. Then use the + and - buttons to adjust the volume of the individual pad.
    5. To adjust another pad, strike that pad, and repeat step 4 above.

If that doesn't help from above, try updating the firmware on your module. Log onto the product page http://www.alesis.com/dm6usbkit then under the Docs & Downloads section, download and update to the latest firmware.

    It's not the volume -

When I tried to update the firmware, it would not update. I then contacted your Gus in Customer Service and he also was not able to provide the proper files / method - see Alesis TechSupport Case No. 870967 which should still be 'Open'.

Again, when striking the rim of the snare, on occasion it does not emit a sound, especially when used in conjunction with the hi-hat.
    • Hello,

Thanks for the info! Make sure you downloaded the .ZIP file from the Docs & Downloads section of the DM6 product page - http://www.alesis.com/dm6usbkit. All of the files for the update are in that download. Make sure while your performing the update, you don't have another USB device connected besides your DM6 module. Having multiple USB devices connected at the same during this update could interfere with your update.

I'm going to have Gus reach out to you again and assist you. Please continue to communicate with him until you've resolved your issue. When the issue is resolved, post back here so that we know. Thanks!

  • I’m happy
The firmware file appears to have been updated just this past month and I achieved success with this update - AND it seems to have resolved much of the misses, as I'm know getting sound on 98-99% of the rim hits / targets - still not 100%, but much, much improved.

Gus thinks it may be a 'crosstalk' issue with simultaneous use of the Hi-Hat..the DM^ module does not have a sensitivity setting that more advance models to....so for now I'll continue to monitor this site if anyone encounters the same problem and then achieves 100% success.
