Sample Pad Pro crosstalk

I have just downloaded and uploaded the new update V1.0.15 2015-4-21 in attempt to stop crosstalk on my pads, specifically the middle 2. However once the update has been applied there is no difference to the crosstalk and it is incredibly frustrating! To spend this much money to find such an inferior product is ridiculous. Can you please assist?

  • Hello Bryan,

Thanks for the post. I'd like to help! On any electronic percussion pad, all of the pads can hear the strikes made to all of the other pads. Because of this, playing harder than necessary will increase the likelihood of unintended pads triggering. As you get to know the Alesis Sample Pad Pro, you’ll get accustomed to how much force is appropriate when triggering sounds. The following guide covers some basic measures you can take to optimize crosstalk, sensitivity and triggering. Try it out and let me know how it goes!

  • I have the same issue with my unit. I updated firmware first to 1.0.15 and later to 19 version but the crosstalk between pad 4 and pad 7 continuous. I've it mounted on a snare drum stand. Also tried sensitivity but nothing changes

  • I can understand crosstalk if you hit the thing hard, but please could you explain why I get crosstalk when I hit the pads very softly? Makes no sense.

  • I have the sensitivity up to 8 so maybe that is what is causing the crosstalk between pads 4 and 7, so I'll try setting it 2 when I get home. But to force users to set it to this level seems like a short term work around. What is the point of having this feature if it causes the product to not work properly?

Also, I'm a little baffled by the guide as it states that the sample pad isn't really for nuanced playing and more for just hitting a trigger or sample. This is actually a contradiction to the product page for the sample pad's first sentence:

    http://www.alesis.com/products/view2/...

"With SamplePad Pro, there’s no limit to your sonic creativity. SamplePad Pro is the all-in-one percussion instrument that knows no bounds. It features 8 fully responsive and velocity sensitive..."

But there is a limit. If you go past 2, the product no longer works as advertised. The boundary is sensitivity level 2.

This isn't an acceptable answer. You are delivering a product to a community of musicians, who have spent countless hours perfecting dynamic, nuanced skills. Your product isn't matching what the market demands.

I like this product and it's at a great price, but I'm on the fence on getting a refund.

At any rate, does Alesis have a long term fix planned?

  • This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Do you i need to update my samplepad pro with the latest firmware??.

I recently bought a Alesis samplepad pro

I am having very minor crosstalk issues

  • I've come to accept that crosstalk is unavoidable on this device, regardless of firmware or sensitivity settings. I'm also pretty certain they'll never do anything to fix it, though I'd love to be proven wrong.

Very disappointed with my Alesis purchases and the poor customer support. Thank goodness I only bought a few relatively inexpensive items but perhaps that's why we are ignored. Would it be different if I'd spent a few thousand instead of a few hundred?

  • If Alesis was a company that cared about their customers they would have allow anyone to send it in for repair of crosstalk issues. There are many videos on youtube of people complaining about crosstalk and some people being on their 3rd replacement unit and still have the crosstalk issues. I have a Roland octapad II from 30 years ago that has ZERO cross talk. It is baffling that the samplepad pro is a step backwards from technology created 30 years ago.

I'm going get my money back if I can. Alesis seems to be hiding this issue by redirecting everyone to support and sending them another unit that has the same issue.

  • In my SamplePad pro, the main issue of cross-talk was specific to the pads on the top corners. To be honest, the crosstalk issue was really bad unless the sensitivity was very, very low on these pads. In my mind, I feel like that's the only difference that the firmware update did - to lower the sensitivity on those pads.

For example, hitting the top side pad would trigger one of the other pads, even if I lightly tapped on it. This could be a disaster live if you were intending one of these pads to trigger a looped sample for example.

You'd absolutely never get this issue from high-end sample pads. So I think this really needs to be looked at.
