SamplePad drum trigger compatibility

I bought the Alesis Samplepad used from a secondhand music store called Music Go-Round Ann Arbor and I love the product. Great sounds. I want to trigger the bass drum with an acoustic drum trigger from my acoustic bass drum. I own a Roland RT-30 bass drum trigger and it does not seem to be compatible. Am I correct? Are these two products not compatible? I plugged it into the drum trigger spot on the unit (which worked using a bass drum from an Alesis electronic kit but I was to use it with my acoustic bass drum). cannot find this answer anywhere on drum forums on the internet. Please help!!!
