Single mesh head value?

I recently purchased an Alesis Surge on a sale for $400. I've been loving it! However when I wanted to buy an extra 10'' mesh head to expand my kit they run for about $200 everywhere. I am really confused by this value proposition, I mean how can I buy a whole 8 piece kit for just double of what only one pad costs? How can I buy a whole nitro kit for less than the price of two pads? I'm a little baffled by this. Are there any 3rd party options for me that would work with the dm7 module?

  • Hi Emmanuel,

    Thanks for posting.

You should be able to use virtually any third-party triggers with your Surge Mesh Kit. As pricing is set by your local retailer, I would advise you to speak with them for concerns about pricing.

Thank you for your prompt answer Bill. Sadly I will have to go with the 3rd party route to expand my kit because of value, which is quite interesting to me because Alesis has almost always been known as the brand of unbeatable value and quality in electric drums. I understand what you say about local retailers setting their own prices, but let me be blunt, I don't buy for a second the idea that Alesis as a brand has no saying on the price of their stand alone components. It is not my local Guitar Center and Sam Ash alone that have the stand alone mesh pads priced at $150 and $200. It is Amazon (in Alesis' own store), Musicians' Friend, Kraft Music, Sweetwater, Ebay, and every mayor music retailer in the U.S. When such great value can come with Alesis' kits, the overpricing of these components is something that the company should really address. Thanks again.
