Solution for the Hi-Hat problem. Strike pro kit.

Hey all!

After all this time of finding a good setup, I have finally found what the problem is with the Hi-Hat issue.

The spring between the cymbals is too short and it can not provide that much tension to the trigger it will need to work properly. The gap between the cymbals are too big when they are at the closed position.

If the plastic cap was i little bit higher or the spring was more stiff it should be much more accurate when pressing down the pedal.

Try this out for yourself, lift up the top cymbal as high as you can so you can reach the spring with you hand, then you strike the top cymbal at the same time you press the spring down. The hi-hat works perfectly fine that way!

Do NOT try to strech out the original spring to make it longer, it will be more loose that way.

  • I'm not quite following you on your description. What exactly are you testing by hitting the cymbal and pressing the spring down with your hand?

If the gap between the cymbals in the closed position is too large, wouldn't a shorter spring or weaker spring be needed so that they close all the way when closed if that was the issue?

  • By pressing the spring with the hand you get more sensitive feeling about whats happens with the trigger and when it reacts to the spring tension, in my opinion it is quite sensitive, Many people write about how hard it is to dail in the "stomp sounds" and dont get that half open sounds.

No, if the gap (in the center) is too large and the spring too short it will not build up that much pressure on the trigger for it to react properly.
In my case I had to press uncomfortable hard on the pedal for it to build up that much pressure to get full closed sound, because the rubber on the cymbals are a bit too thick to compress, if you understand what i mean.

The spring should create so much pressure so you only have to rest your foot on the pedal when it closed and get a full closed sound, then tweak it in with the threshold parameter if its to sensitive.
