I’m frustrated with

Strike Multipad using DM10 HH pedal

I’m having an issue getting my DM10 HH pedal to work with my Strikepad. I’ve tried grouping, Ive tried using a separate HH cymbal pad plugged in to [trin1] and the controller in the HH. Nothing seems to be working. I can’t seem to find anything in the manual or in the videos addressing HH pedal operation or settings. Could someone from Alesis please address this issue in a public forum?

  • Hi Kirk,

    Thanks for posting.

I apologize for the confusion, but this is not a function that is currently supported by the Strike MultiPad at this time. However, I will be sure to pass this along to the Alesis team as a feature request for you.

  • 1st and most important...there are NO Mute Groups in the Multipad.Maybe in a future Firmware update?
Mute groups are required for Cymbals/choke and Hihat Cymbal/Pedal to function.

There are multiple samples per Hi Hat which you could probably stretch out across the Multipad and assign different velocities to them and put in a sync group but who wants to use all those pads for just the Hi Hat..If you were using a STRIKE module these would be placed in velocity ranges while constructing a HiHat in the editor..3b and 4b are (2) different Hi Hats

    Example: 13 FUSE
    13 Fuse 3QS 3b
    13 Fuse 3QS 4b
    13 Fuse 3QT 3b
    13 Fuse 3QT 4b
    13 Fuse CS 3b
    13 Fuse CS 4b
    13 Fuse CT 3b
    13 Fuse CT 4b
    13 Fuse HS 3b
    13 Fuse HS 4b
    13 Fuse HT 3b
    13 Fuse HT 4b
    13 Fuse OS 3b
    13 Fuse OS 4b
    13 Fuse OT 3b
    13 Fuse OT 4b
    13 Fuse Ped 1
    13 Fuse QS 3b
    13 Fuse QS 4b
    13 Fuse QT 3b
    13 Fuse QT 4b

There is a way to piece one together/simulate it and it's very close..You will get all the necessary sounds and..it will bark using technique/velocity.
The trick for now is split up the velocities, change to Oneshot and from Poly to Mono in the sound mode per wave sample.Round Robins only switch from wave A to B and Mono only allows one voice at a time,so it will stop on the next strike/triggering.

The Trigger will be referred to different names throughout the menu windows..(TRIN 1..T1..Trig 1.. Pad1)
The HH Pedal input in the Multipad currently has No adjustments at this time other than Group and turning fixed levels on/off

    TESTED:Trigger/Controller:STRIKE Top..RealHat Pedal.

I used the first HiHat in the sample pool to eliminate scrolling though all of the Hi Hat samples

You should be able to get the HH to bark by itself without even using the pedal..and the pedal will splash/chick by itself.
The combination of the 2 and a litle practice will simulate a working Hi Hat.
Try using the pedal as a normal Hi Hat pedal with the range of motion/triggering happening close the the end of the down stroke,You should hear the chick by pressing down..then the splash if you do a quick press down/up
Practice Pedal open/close with cymbal strikes and adjust individual Velocity/Volume levels of each sample to dial in to your playing style..then audition/replace with other samples.
If you play fast and notice double triggering etc , you may have to go and adjust the retrigger/X-talk settings under utility.

  • Or I could just assign a closed and an open hat next to each other and put them in the same group as the HH pedal and set them to mute each other. Much easier and works great for what I need.

Is there any update on adding actual support for hi-hat controller pedals? There's an input slot specifically labeled for hi-hat pedals, but without being able to use one to modify the sound of a pad, there's really no reason for it to be there, as you can't actually do anything with it.

I personally consider this to be a make-or-break feature, so please consider adding it if it's not already in your backlog.

  • Even with the 1.1 update the Hi-hat implementation is terrible. No way to get a chick (or any other) sound from a HH control pedal down and you have to tie up at least 3 pads just to get closed, half open, open. Come on Alesis, you build edrums. How hard can this be?
Otherwise the multipad is pretty good. But Roland had full hi-hat functionality in the 2010 vintage Octapad SPD-30 with jut a HH pedal and any of the built-in pads or an external trigger cymbal.
What's the problem Alesis? Fix this please.
