Surge click re: slow/good/fast feedback

With the click on, the screen/module gives visual feedback when we play a pad to match the click, i.e.: slow/good/fast. Could you tell me how close (in time) the stroke has to be to stay within the "good"? Or, how inaccurate must the stroke be to register as "slow" or "fast"?

It appears that higher tempos require greater accuracy, as if the feedback is based on being within a certain percentage (%) of perfect--a bell curve perhaps?

I have searched the internet without being able to find an answer to this question.

    Thanks for posting! 

    This is very subjective. It depends on your accuracy, and also the velocity will be different at higher tempos so there is no rule of thumb in regards to the visual click and your performance reflecting on the module screen.

      With the click on, there's some quantity of milliseconds from perfect within which a strike on the pad still registers "GOOD" on the screen. But If the stroke is too Late by some quantity of time, then the screen will light up "SLOW." And, if the stroke is some quantity of time too soon, then the screen will light up with "FAST." I would like to know the quantities of time. (It is not possiblly subjective). There is a program in the software that is determining whether the stroke is "slow" or "fast" or "good" by some specific quantitative value. I would like to know the quantitative value(s).

      The purpose of the visual feedback on the module is so you can know if its receiving signal from your pads so it's easy to note chase and change sounds/ trigger parameters, there may be a sliding scale of how "fast" or "slow" it will visually react. There is no information regarding the "Quantities of time" between when you hit a pad and when the module visually responds.

      The Surge module/screen actually has the words "SLOW" "GOOD" "FAST," which will light up to tell me when my Strokes match the click track, or not. On the Surge module, this instant feedback tells me whether I am rushing, dragging, or locked in with the click track.

      Somebody wrote a program for that, and had to make a decision as to how much variation in time would result in the "SLOW" or the "FAST" lighting up on the screen instead of "GOOD."

      Perhaps that program and that decision were Outsourced to another country? I could probably get pretty close to measuring it with video, but it would be an exceedingly tedious experiment.

      Is there's someone else you could ask to see if there still might be an easy answer there?

    Yes, I understand what you are trying to measure. That information is pretty obscure but I can definitely raise it to our team :) Maybe they will update that on the User Guide in the future.

  • If I were to guess, strokes would have to be about plus or minus 50 milliseconds if the tempo is 100 BPM...
