The kick pedal stopped producing sound.

Got this drum set 3 yrs ago for my 17 yr. old son and he loves it. When he went to use it again recently the kick pedal stopped working. We checked the continuity for the snake and it had good connection; next we switched foot pedals, no sound for either with the kick jack but they both work on the hi hat. Then we applied the kick cable to the crash cymbal and we got sound and it displayed on the module, but not on the base pedal. Not sure what this means

  • So, for me the high-hat pedal went. If I were you, steps I'd take would be:

1/ Check the actual pedal works. Sounds like you've done this - it's actually a very simple circuit for the kick - current/no current - you should be able to trigger it by gripping and letting go of the jack that plugs into it. If that does nothing, it's probably not the pedal.

2/ Otherwise, if it is, take it apart, remove dust, clean etc... For me, I think that was the problem for the high-hat.

3/ Check the cable itself. You shouldn't be kinking/overbending etc the cable. Also, it shouldn't be frayed or damaged at all...

4/ Check to make sure the cable cluster is fully plugged into the back of the controller. If it's not fully inserted, some of the connections don't get made and the kit doesn't respond. I actually think the cable layout is similar to the drum layout, so if it's rocked to one side, you'll lose kick and maybe right tom/cymbal...

Response from Alesis for me has been, "Tough luck". Very disappointed - there are cheaper drum kits, I had expected Alesis to have a good customer service response.

  • Hello Pam,

Sorry to hear about your troubles but we can certainly help. Feel free to try Stephens recommendations but sometimes its as simple as checking the Kick Type Switch from the rear of the module. Make sure on the rear of your module, it's positioned on Pad. Please confirm this.
