I’m confused

The pedal resonance function does not seem to affect the sound of the keys

I just bought a Alesis recital digital piano. I was looking at the manual and I saw there is an option called Pedal Resonance that can be turned on or off. I don't know much about pianos but I thought this would make notes last longer as a pedal does. In fact it doesn't seem to do anything. There is no on/off indicator so it is a bit hard to tell if it is enabled or not but I tried both and nothing changes. Is it me or is this function not working?

  • Hi David,

    Thanks for posting.

The pedal resonance function simulates the reverberation of notes when pressing on the sustain pedal on an actual piano. When this is enabled, the keyboard will reproduce rich harmonics and unique sound characteristics of an actual piano when used with a sustain pedal.

You can follow these steps below to toggle the pedal resonance on or off:

    1) Press the Metronome and Lesson buttons at the same time to enter Advanced Function Mode. The two button LEDs will be lit.
    2) Press the key marked Pedal Resonance to turn the function on or off.
    3) Press both the Metronome and Lesson buttons again to exit Advanced Function Mode.

Note: When the Pedal Resonance is activated, the chorus effect will be automatically disabled. There may also be a slight pause in the sound if you switch the Pedal Resonance on or off while performing.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply but this doesn't help at all. This is just a copy and paste from the manual. I read it already and I'm telling you it doesn't affect the sound.

  • Have you tried using another sustain pedal with your Recital? If you have and you still aren't able to get the pedal resonance feature to function, you may need to service your keyboard.

Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum, but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Alesis Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Thanks

Both the keyboard and the pedals are brand new and they are the only ones I got. I'll try to test my pedal on another piano at the shop I bought it from. If the pedal works, I'll return the keyboard or something.

    Thanks again for your help.
