Unable to format thumb drive on Forge Kit: "USB DRIVE ERROR"

Hey everyone,

I am trying to get my usb thumb drive to work with my forge module. Although when I go to the usb memory setting to format the drive, it tells me that there is no usb plugged in. I formatted the drive to FAT32 (I think) but it still doesn't work. Suggestions?

  • Hi Brad,

Thanks for posting. I'll be happy to help!

Please make sure you're using a support thumb drive. Your USB flash drive can have a capacity of 4–64 GB, and it must use a FAT32 file system to work properly with the drum module.

To format a connected USB flash drive:

    1. Press Kit to enter the Kit Selection page (if you are not already viewing it).
    2. Press Menu to enter the Kit Menu.
    3. Use the Down and Up buttons to select USB Memory, and then press Enter.
    4. Use the Down and Up buttons to select Format, and then press Enter.
    5. The display will show The USB memory will be erased! Enter or Exit?

To format the drive (which will also erase its contents), press Enter.

    To cancel formatting, press Exit

    Hope this helps!

  • I have the same problem with the alesis crimson module. I've tried 3 usb-drives (4gb, 8gb, 16gb) and always formatted in FAT32, but EVERYTIME the module says "usb drive error, please restart". I even tried a brand-new usb drive - still doesn't work... connecting via midi doesn't work either, as cubase doesn't recognize anything.
