I’m frustrated

Unable to record using Audacity

I have just received a new Alesis Multimix 4 USB FX mixer and have set it up to record using Audacity. I have selected "2- USB AUDIO CODEC" as my recording device from Audacity's Preferences tab. My PC is using Windows 10. I have connected a mic into the Mic 1 XLR socket but cannot get Audacity to record anything from it at all. What am I doing wrong?

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for posting.

Most recording softwares have an option to "record-enable" the channel(s) you're working with. Double-check this is engaged if Audacity has this feature.

Also, are you working with a dynamic or condenser mic? Most condenser mics will require more power than dynamic microphones. That being said, double-check you have the phantom power switch on the back of the mixer engaged if that's the case.

    I hope this helps!

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for that....all working well now.
By the way, just so you know, the Cubase software download that came with the mixer does not work. The program downloads o.k. but there is just no way I can get it to record from the mixer. The YouTube instructions are no good either as they do not play at all. I've checked a couple of blogs and there are numerous other people having exactly the same problems so it isn't just me!!!
That's why I'm using Audacity.....easy to use and it actually works!!
