Using Samplepad Pro as Ableton midi controller w/ 2nd midi controller on MIDI in?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to setup the SamplePad Pro via USB as the main Midi controller here for Ableton. (this part works great.)

Additionally I wanted to get a 76 note keyboard here to trigger the same Ableton midi. So I've got the keyboard midi talking to the SamplePad Pro just fine - the keyboard can trigger the SamplePad onboard sounds so clearly it's working.

What's not working is the same MIDI In is not getting passed through the USB midi out back to Ableton.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Shaun

  • Hi Shaun,

Thanks for posting. I'd like to look into this a little more for you. In the meantime, can you please provide me with some more information? Like, what happens when you connect both of your MIDI devices together and set them up in Ableton? When you use your keyboard to trigger your SamplePad Pro, does Ableton react in any kind of way?

What version of Ableton are you using?

  • Hey Bill,

    Thanks for responding here...
    So I'm using Ableton Live 9.7.4 64-bit.

The midi keyboard controller in question does not have a USB-midi capability, so I'm stuck using that Midi-out going into another USB-midi controller (like the Samplepad Pro). I've tested the same midi-keyboard going Midi IN with other USB-midi devices & they've all worked just fine (the Midi passed on through the devices successfully back into Ableton.) The Samplepad Pro is the only that's giving me this hiccup...

I'm wondering if the Samplepad's Midi IN port is somehow dedicated to triggering local onboard sounds & not able to send on through via the USB port?

    thanks,
    Shaun

  • Sorry for the delay, Shaun. Double-check that you've enabled the external clock under the MIDI settings. This will ensure that your SamplePad Pro is able to send and receive MIDI clock. You can access the MIDI settings by navigating to your options.
