Using SR16 for live performance.

How do I create an ordered list of patterns and songs with correct tempo? I would like to reduce the setup time between songs at live gigs. I have created songs on the SR16, but am mostly using patterns in connection with a foot switch to go back and forth between A & B patterns and related fills. I want to seamlessly switch from pattern to pattern with the correct tempo.

  • Hi James,

    Thanks for posting.

    Try this out:

In Perform mode, you can select a new Pattern number with the desired A or B pattern or switch from A to B patterns within a pattern number at any time. The newly-selected pattern will play back as soon as the current pattern plays through its entire length. The display will show you the pattern to be played next. To select a new pattern in performance mode, enter the two-digit pattern number. If an A pattern is currently playing, the new pattern number will play the A variation. If a B pattern is currently playing, the new pattern number will play the B variation.

You can also enter a two-digit pattern number followed by A or B or Preset/User to call up an A or B or Preset or User Pattern, regardless of the pattern that's currently playing.

I hope this helps! Let me know how this goes.

  • This is basically what I am doing currently. What I would like to do is be able to index to a different pattern which would also use a different tempo quickly.

For example: our trio plays a cover of “Wild Horses” using User pattern 05 at 65bpm. The next song is “Brass in Pocket”, which uses pre-set pattern 00 at 98 bpm. Currently I have to quickly change the pattern to 00 and then use the tempo button to increase the bpm from 65 to 98. Meanwhile the dance floor has emptied.

What I would really like to do is to be able to easily order patterns and songs (where used) to match our trio’s set list, storing the correct tempo so all I have to do is punch a button to move to the next tune.

Is there some kind of inexpensive controller that would allow this to happen or some kind of secret algorithm inside the SR16? Many thanks.

  • I understand what you're looking for, but this is not something that is currently offered on the SR-16. However, I'll be happy to submit this to my software team as a feature request for you.
