Is it possible to use the V Mini without a laptop?

Is there anything I can hook up a Alesis Vmini to other than a laptop, that will allow me to hear what I play. There is just a USB 3.0 plug. I was hoping something like the new Volca mixer that has a built in speaker with it

  • Hi David,

    Thanks for posting.

The V Mini is a controller that can be used to trigger plugins from your computer, but does not contain any built-in sounds. In order to hear sound from your controller, you will need to connect it to your computer, open a DAW, and load a plugin on an instrument track. For your convenience, I've included a few guides below that will walk you through getting set up in a couple of popular DAWs:

  • Thank you for your quick reply,

The Vmini is so cute I would like to use it on my couch while relaxing. I can hook up to my old Asus eeepc 701 running LMMS but its still cumbersome for that.

I was hoping there was something like this

that you could choose rudimentary instruments when hooked up to your computer, and assign to controllers, have a battery in it, USB hookup both in and out, perhaps a slider and knob, and finally, a built in speaker.

Would be perfect little gadget that could be hooked up to any controller even drum pads. Kind of like Teenage Engineering Pocket Synths, but using the Vmini as the input. But I guess i was just wishing :(
