Want to add a DMPad 8" Single-Zone Pad to DM6 Kit to replace a Tom, but plugs are wrong

Sick of the 3 tom's that came with kit....want to replace one with a DMPad 8", which I bought, but it (DMPad) has a decidedly larger plug connection than the three plugs available for toms. Can I buy an adapter? Can I get a snake with more plugs? Am I screwed? Would love to know how (and if) this can happen. I would really prefer to not have to unplug a cymbal so I can use the larger format plug on the "new" tom (DMPad 8").

Please help.

Thanks!

This reply is unacceptable....it doesn't even address my question. I already "checked out" the individual parts and bought a part....does it work or not???!!!! Can I add the DMPad 8" or not? The components link you gave tells me nothing. Please answer the question......this is making me wonder if Alesis really gives a s#@t about helping out customers.

    Very frustrated....

    • Hi Chris,

I have a DM6 module (that's what I said in the title of my post)....not a DM10. Not trying to be snarky....just trying to puzzle this out. Once again....DM6....not DM10.
    • Ok, thanks for clarifying that for me. The DM6 kit obviously uses a cable snake. The DM6 is one of our entry kits from our percussion line. You can't add an additional cable snake to that kit. Customization is tough with this one. The inputs with this kit are single zone. I noticed with the DMPad 8" Dual Zone, this pad can fit your kit http://www.alesis.com/dmpad8dual but unfortunately your kit is only a single zone kit. So if you purchased that pad, it may fit but you'll only get one zone out of it instead of two.

With the DM10 http://www.alesis.com/dm10, you certainly can do more with this kit then the DM6. This is a dual zone kit. You'll have more inputs and options to choose with this upgraded module.

  • Hi Chris,

Okay, we're getting somewhere now! I don't care if I get one zone....not my issue. The issue is that some of the plugs on the DM6 snake are large (snare, bass, cymbals, etc.) and the tom plugs are smaller diameter. So, if I swap the DMPad 8" for a tom....the plug doesn't fit for the new pad. There aren't enough "big-size" plugs on the snake, and I can't simply swap pads. You see? So, the only way to make it work is to unplug a cymbal, plug the DMPad 8" into that (plug IS big enough there) an reprogram the sounds.....BUT I lose a cymbal.

What I am asking, is, can I buy an adapter to make the "small" plug on the DM6 cable snake labelled "Tom" into a "big" plug for the DMPad 8". Or, can I buy a new snake for the DM6 that has more "big" size plugs?

    • Hello,

If your content using just one zone with the DMPad 8" Dual Zone then that pad will work, fit and replace your DMPad 8" as stated on the product page under Key Features. After researching the replacement DM6 Cable Snake from here http://www.alesis.com/dm6cablesnake, you can expand your kit with this particular snake. This cable snake not only serves as a factory replacement for the DM6 USB Express Kit, but includes two additional trigger inputs so you can expand your kit to include an extra cymbal and an extra pad. It has a multi-pin DB25 connector for the DM6 module and 1/4” pad cables for Kick, Snare, three Toms, Hi-Hat, Hi-Hat Control, and two Cymbals.

If your content with one zone then you should look into purchasing this cable snake and the DMPad 8" from out parts department. You can contact them at 401-658-3131 ext. 1407.
