What should I do to record MIDI with the DM Lite?

I have instruments working together trough a powered USB hub: one electric piano, one MIDI controller trough tone generator, and the DM Lite. All of them except the Drum are capable to record MIDI notes as played. The computer is a MacBooK Pro, the software is Live 8 and the sound card is the Multimix 16 Firewire from Alesis.

It is possible to cancel local mode in the DM Lite? What should I do to record the MIDI while I'm playing the drums?

Thanks!

  • I’m frustrated
Hello Chris and thanks for the answer.
I have already follow the manual instructions in every detail, but I still have problems with MIDI notes from the DM Lite. The DM Lite can effectively send and receive MIDI but I can not record the MIDI from the DM Lite. It just does not appear! Then I can not create MIDI sequences... This is an important issue, so please give me an straight answer: It is possible to fix this by firmware actualization or I need another Drum kit?

  • bassist/vocalist/engineeer/producer

    I'm a elec. bassist, and I've owned a number of different drum machines/ MIDI Production units, but still need to play my original grooves on a kit, ie;
real world playing. The Unit is quite small, almost "toy like" and my 5' 4" frame seems to fit it just fine. Assembly required, very light.
The bass pedal noisy, there's a sort of clack sound before the actual bass drum sound. I've replaced that. The position of the "snare" drum on the frame
is unacceptable, even for us "non-drummers." Spent an additional $38 Dollars+/_ for a Pearl extension bracket, tricky to install but worked out quite well.
10 drum kit patches adequate. No recording device on board. Although I learned,(quite by accident) that the DMLites' drum brain works as the "master" unit,
as it sends "sync" MIDI CLOCK to Cakewalk SONAR 4. Such a Godsend...real convenient, just set up the track on your PC, enable midi clk in sequencer,
arm the track, it should prompt for sync signal and press start/ stop button on the DM LITE brain and off you go! Just remember to kill the volume on the
supplied patterns. You'll have to deal with the quantizing and all, but you'll have "your" grooves on the computer for you to work with! Other features are
Drum coach, and click. It does not include the 5 pin MIDI out, just the doghouse shape usb. Drumsticks are incl, but way too fat for me. The Alesis DMLITE drum
kit is perfect for my home recording studio setup. Yes I would recommend this kit to other musicians ie;bass players, like myself.
Get it and you'll be challenged to be a better musician, no kidding. Bottom line, this toy like drum kit is for those of us who want to learn/get better
at playing drums. It allows me to create and reproduce what is in my heart and in my head. I dig it, i really do. Just be prepared to make modifications
almost immediately! Beware,I probably wouldn't ask long time drummers to play it, esp "smash, bam boomers"... might as well just set a match to your $300 bucks.
Just saying. I give it 3 stars out of 5.

  • I have an issue where the notes are so small I can barely see them but can't click them in Reaper. You might be having this issue but in your DAW they might be so small that they are invisible. It is more than annoying. If you can play back what you recorded but you just can't see or edit the MIDI then you are having the same issue I am. I was able to right click on a keyboard lane and click an option that lets me select the next note. That is the only way I can edit them. This is more than annoying. I would like to know how to fix this.
