I’m frustrated

Where do I find Firmware Updates?

Hey guys,

I have exactly the same problem, which was solved in this post:
http://community.alesis.com/alesis/to...

But I can't solve it, cuz I can't find any firmware updates for my Multimix 8 Firewire device, except for the windows versions for XP and Vista 32bit. But the guy in that topic above told about a firmware updater for mac. It's not in the Docs & Download section here: http://www.alesis.com/multimix8firewire

It would be so nice, if you could plug in some devices without troubleshooting, searching the www and wasting hours and hours before using it (on Win PC).
On mac 4 years ago, it was like plug in, install driver, restart, use. You alesis guys really should keep supporting your older products...

  • Hello,

I would like to help. The latest updates can be found on the Multimix 8 Firewire's product page. Like you mentioned, log onto http://www.alesis.com/multimix8firewire and under the Docs & Downloads tab, look for the latest driver based on your operating system. You may need to use a PC to complete a firmware update with your current unit.

  • I've got the latest driver on my win7x64 machine, but as I said, same error in Ableton like that other guy, who fixed it with a firmware update (1.4 to 2.0). Driver ≠ firmware update, right? And the firmware updates I found by googling are only compatible with win XP and Vista x86. In some download links, it's said that it's compatible with mac, but after extracting, only a *.exe can be found...

    • Here's one Link: http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDown...

You can find the same file elsewhere.
But if there's no firmware update, what did the "timthecomposer" talked about in the thread I posted? And what shall I do then for getting my interface running with ableton on win7? I really would like to contact this guy, but sadly there is no private message system, nor can I post in his thread, because it's closed...

Otherwise I have to keep the mixer using with my 8 years old Mac, instead of my new, 1000 times faster win pc... :(

ps: I did'nt perform the firmware update, I just tried. But I only got a prehistoric mac, not a prehistoric win pc ;)
    • Hello,

Thanks for the link. Yea, I would never download from a third party website like that. I wouldn't perform that firmware update, good thing you didn't. You should only download from what's on the Alesis's product page.

This GUIDE may help you out with your setup in Ableton. Please try it out.

  • Hey, thx for the Guide. I tried to follow it, but the ASIO4ALL controll panel crashes when I select/activate my Interface (just like Ableton does). My Alesis control panel looks like this:

(Just like the one of "timthecomposer", the guy of that topic before)
It seems to be exactly the same problem, but since his solution doesn't work, what am I supposed to do?

    • I don't think I need to service my mixer. It works fine on my Mac Mini 2007 with Leopard OS (32 bit). It even works on a PowerPC G5 with Tiger OS (64 bit). I just recorded music 2 days ago with the Mac Mini. I used it that way for many years, but now I finally want to get up to date, concerning processor speed and memory amount.
In my new PC, I just installed a definitely working firewire-PCI-card. All ports (old and new ones) don't work, same problem. I'm going to test the mixer on my fathers PC (old 32 bit XP one). I'll tell you the results of that last test tomorrow (I guess it will work on that one^^)
    • Sounds good. Let me know how your results are!
