Adding Back Site Features like Wiki, Calendars, Blogs

Hi

I am looking at migrating from an internal Alfresco server to your cloud set up. I have created a site but don't see how I can add additional features such as the Wiki, calendar, blog etc. Please can you let me know how I can do this.

Thanks
Scott

    Hi Scott,

We've deliberately removed these features from the product so we can concentrate on supporting our core feature, documents + file sharing. Once we get that rounded off, with the new UI improvements we are planning, then we will focus on bringing in existing features like the Calendar into the product. We also want to look holistically at these additional features and make sure we design them right in an integrated way so they work really well out of the box for our users.

It will probably take us a few months before we can come back to these but these are on the roadmap.

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi David

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you're doing here. I'm looking at options to migrate away from MS Sharepoint and had a look at the internally hosted Alfresco (which I really like) but ideally would like a cloud solution for availability in case our internal servers aren't accessible. To migrate from Sharepoint I need the Wiki feature as we use it for all our ISO management systems so your cloud offering won't work for me at this stage. If I go ahead and use the full Alfresco internally will there be an easy way to migrate this in to the cloud once the required features are available?

    Thanks

    Hi Scott,

Absolutely! We will be providing an API and because we support the same data models in the Cloud it will be easy to move data using our APIs across, I believe there are also some tools out there already for Alfresco if you search online.

One thing I'm wondering is some people use Wikis because its a quick way to edit information in a site without having to download and edit a document. If we could make documents as easy to edit in your browser as say Google Docs, would this replace the use case you have for the Wiki right now? If so we plan to have our integration with Google Docs released by April and I've found many users (including myself) prefer using rich, online editable documents instead of wikis once they can easily edit the documents directly in the browser.

    Hi David

    Very swift response! Thank you.

It may well be that editing documents online (If Mac is supported....unlike Sharepoint!) will be ok. I won't be sure until I try it. I like the Wiki structure for documenting ISO policies and procedures eg linking throughout the Wiki to other related policies, procedures etc but I guess this sort of thing would work with online documents anyway.

    Thanks again,
    Scott

No worries! We should be releasing that in April sometime so look out for it and let us know what you think, if it meets your needs it may be we can put your company onto our Supported Beta to pilot with your users.

    Thanks,

    David

  • We would very much like to see these features added to te Alfresco in the Cloud versions. We use Alfresco Cloud as a colleboration site for mainly external users from different organisations. Wiki, Calendar and Discussion Forums would greatly benefit our collaboration!

adding Discussion Forums, Wiki and Calender features to Alfresco Cloud.

  • We also like Alfresco, but now - without the e.m. features it is uncomfortable.

We would like to have Wiki, Calendar and Discussion Forums, because this would greatly benefit our collaboration!

...we hope, it will come soon.
