"performing group"

AMG has an entry for the group: Vic Chesnutt, Kelly Keneipp & Nikki Keneipp. Their biography argues about their ONLY album: "Many would simply classify that CD as a Vic Chesnutt release, and question whether Vic Chesnutt and Mr. and Mrs. Keneipp should be considered as an entity of its own. But the album is credited to Vic Chesnutt and Mr. and Mrs. Keneipp, not Chesnutt alone, and the Keneipps did make important contributions to the final result." Is this justification how AMG editors define a group as an entity of its own (rather than individual artists who are billed on a collaborative album)?

Also, are eponymous groups like Dave Matthews Band and Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire always deemed a separate entity from their individual leader?
