Please add searching by record label, which used to be possible with Advanced Search. By the way, kudos for the result relevancy of type-ahead search!

Oh man. No foolin'
One of the things we've wanted for a long time is advanced search.

Things like: “Give me all of the Albums in the Style of Hard Bop where Miles Davis played Flugelhorn on Blue Note Records”
or
“What are some 5-star rated albums from the ‘80s that have the mood 'Melancholy'”
or
“Who are some artists from the ‘50s-‘70s who have the style Funk associated to their name”

I'd be interested to know what elements you (and other users) would want to search on.
Give us your wishlist and we'll see what we can come up with.

- Zac

OH GOD PLEASE YES - I have a weird thing for 80s teen pop and I spent a good amount of time on the site trying to find a complete list and gave up. That would be awesome to do something like "All Teen Pop artists from '83-'91" or something like that.

Oh exactly, your search examples were possible to perform some time ago with the advanced search on allmusic, and it was great. I cry every day since this feature gone away ; ( You could make my life a sea full of happiness again. (i'm joking a little bit, but not so much)

Would love to do year based searches again- can't seem to figure out where or how to search for, as an example '4 or more star Easy Listening albums from 1986 with a subgenre of Exotica/Lounge'

Thanks HarryLee773,
This is something that has not yet been implemented, but we'd love to enable that kind of search in the near future.

Neat idea! Searching by mood/theme would be cool, I imagine it would allow for some interesting cross-genre music exploration! Still, I do really dig the Explore section of the site.

It would be also nice to have the chance of an advanced search by genre as before: I mean finding the description of a particular genre, along with the most representative examples of it.
Maybe it is already implemented and I didn't find it... sorry if that is the case.

yes, i used to search for specific ratings within a genre/subgenre all the time. year based (allowing for a date range would be best) was also very helpful. the explore section is nice, but it feels very big, too much whitespace...i miss having my long, dense, paginated list of everything

one of the features i loved for finding new music within a genre was the advanced search. however, this feature seems to have disappeared without mention. i'd at least like to be able to browse all albums within a genre/subgenre (filters are great too, such as rating or instruments etc). along these same lines, if i browse a genre currently i get a limited number of results and the interface feels a little puffy, there's too much whitespace. i enjoyed being able to see a long (paginated), compact list of albums with all the pertinent info right there. any chance this will come back?

In many places we are enabling users to see the "List View" of albums or artists with more metadata and sorting abilities:

If you are looking for "a long (paginated), compact list of albums with all the pertinent info right there" this may be your preferred view.

what i meant was that the list view is too big, i'd prefer to have a more compact, dense "list view": hide album art (show on mouseover perhaps), put all the fields for a given album on one line, that sort of thing

Advanced Search Facility is vital, I can't believe this has been overlooked in the beta version. If the "dedicated users" you've interviewed haven't mentioned this they're clearly not that dedicated! Perhaps you should of asked people like us lot who actually use the site on a regular basis before you spoke to them?

I'd like to be able to search by rating, for example all 5 star reviews in 2011. Or perhaps all 5 star reviews in Pop/Rock. Or perhaps all reviews of 4 stars or above by a particular artist. Or by record label!

Should offer an "advanced search" feature where one can search and filter results in multiple ways. For example: by artist, genre, # of album stars, etc.

It would be nice to be able to search by Country.
For example: you enter swedish jazz or sweden, then look at the styles in that country and all the known bands.

Whether it's a search paramater or a filter option, I'd like the ability to separate "in print" and "out of print"

I was wondering, do you plan to bring back the comprehensive lists of artists in each genre that can be sorted by rating, year, artist, etc.?

e.g. Say I wanted to look up post-punk because I like bands of that genre and would like to discover more. Could I look up post-punk and get a full list of the highest rated albums of that genre?

Zac, this should be merged with the idea at https://getsatisfaction.com/allmusic/... because David's question is about the "explore" section for subgenres.

It used to be the case that you could search for albums by genre, so that if you were interested in the most recent releases in that genre, you could just search for it and then sort for that, but that option seems to have been released sometime last year. Any chance of getting it back?

There needs to be a way to see all of the artists listed in a particular subgenre. For instance, when I go to New Edition, I see that they are listed as Teen Pop. When I click on Teen Pop, I am give a list of a few significant artists and the most popular ones. Why can't I just click a button that gives me a list of all the artists under that genre? In fact, I've spent a good amount of time looking for a list because it just seems like such an obvious feature - why wouldn't you have it already?

It would be great if you could search by location and even better if you could search by date and location. For example, "Manchester, England, 1980".

In the left side section of the overview page most of the information is in the form of a link except for the sections "active", "formed" and "disbanded". If the "formed" information (or even the latter part of it) was a link I think it would be a great addition.

New site looks great. Two things I'd love to see:

1) The ability to search by AMG rating. I think this was a feature 1-2 redesigns prior, and it helped me discover the best albums when branching out into a new genre.

2) Love the billboard info...any way you guys could add number of albums sold?

Thanks,
Charles

I was trying to find out if anyone had remade a song recently. So I found the song, and it came up with 136 results, which is great because the original site wouldn't find it at all, even though if I looked it up by the original artist, it was there, so that's weird. But anyways, I digress, I found 136 different versions, but there is no way to sort by date or anything. I really think there should be some way to do that, don't you?

Although I liked the old format, one thing bothered me about it. You could search in the categories artist, album, song, and classical, but there was no way to narrow the search down by combining limited search categories and thus speed up the time reviewing the search results. I was hoping that the new format would allow some sort of boolean search such as artist=Frank Sinatra and composer=Sammy Cahn to get a list of Sammy Cahn songs written by Frank Sinatra. Or artist=Frank Sinatra and song=New York, New York to get a list of recordings on which Frank Sinatra sings "New York, New York." The necessary information is already in the database, so it's simply a method of using an established search algorithm to compare the two search results and display the results that are in common.
