Can't easily find which artists have recorded a particular song.

I might be missing something, but when I try to search through a song to find various versions, (say "My Romance" by Rogers and Hart) I am faced with 116 pages of mixed up songs (by other composers) and can't seem to search alphabetically by artist. One of the most useful features of the old system was an alphabetical sort by artists with composer info, album cover and dates all on the search page - and 50 to a page. This ability to quickly find which artists have done a particular song is the most important and critical function that I need.

Yeah, that covers the topic! But AMG actually had the information in the old system - it's just that problems developed in the last few years with displaying all the info properly and it kept repeating the same pages as you moved through the search results.

Even if you can't sort by composer, at least it had the composer displayed so you could see all songs of that name and immediately determine which ones were the exact song you wanted.

If you could then just sort by composer or artist alphabetically then that would be great; but not just one page of 20 at a time: we need to be able to sort the whole search results. In my example of 'My Romance", that means searching 2304 items and being able to sort them into something useful - not just sorting one page at a time for 116 pages!!!

Thanks,
Geoff

The old (and I mean old) way of doing this was the best. The more recent one mixed artists, songs, and albums that included the same words, not necessarily just the title that was entered in Search. Now, it's just totally ****ed up. For starters, as Geoff noted, a zillion entries pop up. But in the "new UNimproved" version, a sh**load of pages are listed, but I can't get out of p.1.
Please bring up a system whereby you can search for a song and only versions of songs with that title come up - alphabetically please. Likewise with albums - just show albums. Etc.
I thought AllMusic was supposed to be a useful tool. I'm a freelance music journalist and have used it to look up things for years – but less and less every time the design and format change. It's extremely frustrating, to the point where I wish there was another site that included all the information in a simple, straightforward way.

Oh wow, good on you Dan! I haven't even bothered using All music for a year now as they totally disregarded every issue I raised and have deliberately rendered the whole system useless.

Once you could see every single artist (say 215 or whatever) that ever recorded a particular song; whereas now you just get a pile of meaningless crap that insults common sense.

It's not just maddening; it's really, truly sad. If you know about another website where you CAN get those kinds of search results, please tell me.

Sorry I don't. It used to be helpful for singers and teachers learning new songs and getting a history of that particular one: like 80 years in chronological order from the time that some of those standards were written in the 30's etc. Now it is all lost. It is truly sad that those guys had custody of that information and turned it to crap!

We've been putting some back-end effort into generating a database of cover versions of songs.

Some detail is here:
https://getsatisfaction.com/allmedianetwork/topics/improved-song-pages-on-allmusic

And regarding search, we've done some work to enable exact search by using quotes around the search term(s).

Hope this helps.
