Composition Search and Songwriters in Search Results

Today we rolled out a new version of our Search Results page that has two notable differences:

Songwriter/Composer at the Song Level

Now wherever we have the data available, we are displaying the songwriters for the individual songs within search results.

Classical Composition Search

Another longtime user request, we've finally been able to incorporate Classical composition search results into our overall search function.

On the composition search results you can see the composition title, the composer, the composition year and the genre(s) associated with the piece.

I know users have been asking for this for a while and I'm happy that we were able to listen to your feedback and incorporate it into AllMusic.

That is very nice ! I have given it a try, and have been able to find the composer of a song, so it works. Finally I will be coming around allmusic.com more often (as I used to) to find out composers

(purely as a side note, the song I tried with is "Air Mail Special (On The Fly)" by Leon Rusk (and Jim & Jesse) - kinda drowned amidst a lot of "Air Mail Special" by Ella Fitzgerald and such)

I'm glad that finding the song's composer is now easier - but for me, as someone who sings and is always trying to find material - when I find a song that I like, the next thing I want to do is find all other songs written by that person. That used to be easy to do on your site. Please bring this back! I think this is what made allmusic.com an absolutely unique and outstanding site.

Hi Pje,
When you filter a search to song results only, whenever available the composer name appears on the right side of each song (http://www.allmusic.com/search/songs/...). Then you can click through to that person's AllMusic page, where you can find the Songs tab (http://www.allmusic.com/artist/mongo-... -- second tab from the left; direct link: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/mongo-...). That lists every song they have performed, which you may find helpful.

From the artist page, you can also check out the Credits tab (just to the right of the Songs tab; direct link: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/mongo-...), where you can view all of an artist's credits or toggle to specific credits, like composer, and click through to the corresponding releases.

I hope that helps. Thank you for using AllMusic!

Thanks for the answer - but I'm still not quite with you. On the artist's page - when I click composer, from the credits drop-down - I see the ALBUMS on which the artist is a composer. I have to drill into each album to find the SONGS that the artist has composed. Or, am I missing something?

It used to be possible - on the allmusic site prior to its slick new incarnation - to see all the SONGS that an artist had composed. The information is clearly in your database. Seems like it would not be hard to provide that information once again.
