Discography Sucks!

The way that you are displaying the discography on the Beta site is NOT an improvement. I do not want to have to scroll through pages and pages of stuff just to see the heart of the discography. I want it on one page where I can get a complete overview. If I want to explore further from there I can. You guys have a great site as it is. Don't screw it up by indulging in change for the sake of change.

Hi Martin,
We got a lot of feedback from users saying that they usually used the Discography so we moved that to the main tab (not requiring another click to get to).

It should not require pages and pages of scrolling, it should be right there on the first tab of the artist page.

Is this not what you are seeing?

I wonder what's more tiring. An extra click on another tab, where I can see the discography/filmography on concise list (even in case of prolific artist displayed on one screen) or scrolling down the biography to see the discography/filmography and then scrolling through it even more, because now it requires 4 screens to be displayed in full. That's not an improvement.

There is a "jump to discography" link under the artist name at the top of the artist page, so you shouldn't have to scroll down the page to get to the top of the discography.

As for the larger discography format, we are currently looking closely at areas like this one for possible adjustments, so please stay tuned! Thanks -d

I actually prefer discography be on it's own tab (along with overview, songs, etc). I hate having to scroll down, even just a little bit!

+1 for discography in its own tab. I see the tab for songs, and I wonder where's the tab for albums? (I'm still a fan of the album.) It took me a second to realize that it was down at the bottom of the biography, which I had expanded. I think the discography and bio are both important enough to have separate dedicated places (main tab for bio, discography in its own tab).

(Or if not that, put the bio on its own tab and put the discography on the main tab.)

Folks,
Based on your feedback, we've added a "Jump Link" to allow users to get to the discography directly on the Artist page.

See this post for more info: https://getsatisfaction.com/allmusic/...

At the top of each artist page (under the artist name) you should see red text that says "JUMP TO DISCOGRAPHY" which will take you directly to the Discography section. This functions in the same way that a tab would: Taking you right to the discography information and being accessible from any tab on the artist's page.

Our hope is that this can give the "thanks for the overview!!" folks the ability to scroll down and see the album list below the bio, and also give the "discography tab forever!!" users the ability to accomplish the same thing that a tab would.

Hi Cooper,

When you do a search for an artist, and then click on the name of the artist you're looking for when you see them listed in the search results, the artist page should appear. From there, the discography should be visible; you may have to scroll down under the biography or click on the "jump to discography" link.

Here is a visual explanation: https://getsatisfaction.com/allmusic/...

Hope this helps!

There *still* needs to be a separate tab for Discography. It's more intuitive and *easier* to use than the obscure "jump to discography" link. If more people are using discography rather than overview then have it load *first* and make the "overview" a separate tab.

I wouldn't call this "solved" but rather "worked around".

And we *still* have this horrible work around as an excuse for a issue being "Solved". The "Jump to" link is simply horrible and feels like a patch to make complainers happy.
Here are a few reasons the current implementation is bad:

Clicking on any sub selection (singles, etc.) in the discograpyy section causes the *entire* biography to reload. This would not happen if discography had its own tab.

If I'm looking at the discography and want to use one of the other tabs I'm forced to scroll back up. Discography on its own tab would help eliminate much of this extra scrolling and annoyance.

You can put "Songs" on a separate tab but *not* Discography? How lame!

The "Listen" tab is superflous only showing a pair if off-site streaming services which have a link on *every* album and song listing! Dump that for a tab that would actually be *useful* - Discography.

If you *really* feel the Discography should be on the "opening" page then put Overview on a separate tab with Discography being the primary tab.

I would also like to be able to load discography in it's own page separate from bio. Is it possible? I ask because I am using the Pocket app to read allmusic pages on my kindle. But when I pocket a page -- I only get the overview because my pocket is set that way. I can set it to download everything, but it is very inefficient.

Is is possible to somehow load the discography page in a separate tab?

Hi Eric,
We're looking into this in an upcoming design.

Thanks,
Zac

would be posible to make a personal setting of what you see on an artist page, such as the standard biography or on another tap, and a setting you want to see the main album discography or all releases first
