Don't like the new design -- want a catalog, not a media website.

My initial impression of AllMusic Beta is not good. The new entrance page is loaded with insignificant objects which take up significant screen space and the majority of highlighted content appears off the screen. (And I have an oversized monitor). Lose the banner image (LP album bin) or greatly reduce it in size. Similar comments for artist album pages. Sometimes a list is all that is needed -- not full blown "media" appearance. See Lakoff "Women, Fire, and Dangerous Things: What Categories Reveal About the Mind" and about 50 years of information science research...

Seriously, I can't see using this website for the kind of research I do daily. The old site is So..... much better.

Hi Meanda Oh-one,

Thank you for your feedback. I was able to find "Baby It's You" by the Smiths using AMG's search function. Here's how. Instead of looking for "Smith" which is a common name and would have turned up way too many artist names, instead I searched for "Baby It's You" as a song title. It wasn't in the top five results, so I clicked on "more" and it was on the second page.

Additionally if you search for "baby it's you smith" it comes up as the first result:

So why don't you implement a "advanced" search where multiple qualifiers can be entered for a search. That way this one could be done with a search using "Smith" for the "Artist" and "Baby it's you" for a "Song title" to *easily* come up with a result. Use Artist, Song title, Album title, UPC, Year of release, Label, Country, etc. as pre-defined search fields and allow as few or as many as needed to obtain more targeted results.

Haven't been on All Music for some time and I'm shocked. This has to be the worst redesign in the history of redesigns, the site is absolutely unusable. What were they thinking? Will never use again in this incarnation.

Useless for record store vinyl hunters. Cumbersome, crowded, unnavigable application. I was fine using the old simpler format and Safari. Worthless to me now...

Wow, I just found a bin with 8 different Manfred Mann titles. Which ones should I be looking for? Let me quickly check AMG on my iPhone. 10 minutes later- aw screw it, WTF is this mess?

The sites previous design was very informative about the artists, their releases and the historical context of the recordings by the artists. The site now is a shadow of its former self and of no use to me anymore. I used to steer people to the site, but now I'd be ashamed to do it. Does anybody know what site is the closest to what Allmusic used to be?

I don't know who the genius(es) are who thought this website change was a good idea. But the change is unfortunate and now the site is so dumbed down it is useless.

does anyone know of a website that shows the information that this website USED to show? I hate the layout. there is so much useless information on here now. I feel like they are trying to sell me on other artists instead of give me answers liked they used to. This is the WORST redesign I've ever seen in my life! How is this better? Even the search function isn't very smooth. Who's idea was this? Is ROVI part of SONY? Both seem to be out of touch with what their customers want.

Hi Jodie,
Can you provide some more detail about the difficulty you're having with the search, and what you dislike about the layout? Examples and actionable suggestions help our development team get a better sense of what users want from AllMusic.

It looks like there have been some changes made. I can now see the albums listed again under the overview and now I can see that the ability to listen to a clip of the songs is there. I can't figure out how to see the historical information of the recordings. I seem to have to click a lot more to try and find things. Now I see that ROVI has revamped blockbusters website. Where can I make a comment about that? Both websites are not so hard to navigate and I end up with information that I don't care about over the information that was helpful. There is also so much wasted space on both websites, that now I have to scroll and scroll. I was looking up the song "White Christmas" Each entry is now about 2 inches wide, there is a black square with headphones in the middle, which is a huge waste of space. So I have to keep scrolling on the screen. I enjoyed the more compact "listing" of each song instead. Why do I need to see a useless 1 1/2 inch headphone box next to each song on the list? I'm trying to find a different site to use for my music now. And I'm probably going to switch from blockbuster to netflix, this just wastes too much time scrolling and clicking.

What I enjoyed about the old website was that is was compact and informative. Are you able to look at the old website design and see what I am talking about? What other companies are your clients and why do you follow the same format for each one?

Hi Jodie,
We have not done any design work on Blockbuster's site so I don't think we can help there.

Sorry that your experience with the new AllMusic layout feels too spread out and not as compact as you'd like. Maybe I can explain our thinking:

We're trying to provide a consistent design within search results for Albums, Artists, Songs and Compositions. Since we also use Artist and Album images to help users find which specific album/artist they're looking for, we created the "Headphone" image to keep the layout consistent. While it may feel like wasted space, when we tried having a display that used different heights for Songs and Compositions, those search types felt lost among the larger Album and Artist search results.

An example of an "All" search that uses different heights for the different search types: http://www.rdio.com/search/etta%20james/

Hope this helps you to understand our philosophy in this area.

Hi Larry,
While you do occasionally see sites built with a "classic view" mode, we aren't able to maintain both codebases with the resources we have available to us.

Some more information is available here: http://www.allmusic.com/faq#change

We're constantly working to make improvements to AllMusic, so if there are specific elements you believe will improve the site experience for everyone we can work to build them into AllMusic.

Thanks!

You guys don't care about the users visiting your webpage. Most of your revenue comes from Content providers who have API based access to your catalog. You guys have made a horrible mistake in selecting the template for your redesign. Perhaps the interests of the users don't matter to you anymore, since it doesn't add up to your revenue. If you cared about the visitors of the page, you would've made a smarter choice and ditched this new design template almost immediately as the users raised opinions against it. It's sad to say but Allmusic has become a sellout.

Dear All Music,
I must say that I have been visiting your web site for quite long now, an have been delighted with depth of informations I could find there.
It was the only site of that kind on which one could find everything on one place, excellent organized and prepared for everyday use as well.
This was the reason why millions and millions of people were visiting that site as well - to get informations on performers, compositions, conductors whether in classical, jazz, or any other kind of music.

Unfortunately all that is gone now.
What is left is only the bunch of commercial informations and fancy pictures, but any sign of useful informations is gone.

PLEASE, GIVE IT ALL BACK TO US - TRULY MUSIC LOVERS !!!

Yet ANOTHER stripping down new design?!
I stopped coming to Allmusic a year ago after it got 'rovi-ized' and I thought
I'd look something up (july 27,'13), and much to my horror found an even worse design!
As if the first overhaul wasn't insulting enough, you've outdone yourselves and dumbed the site down to a kindergarten level.
How depressing. AMG was indispensable.
Now it's lost.

I actually don't mind the new design. But one problem is that if you select the play all, there's no indicator as to which song is playing -- we could really use a small text box for this.

Hi JayJay.

Hovering over the album-level sound sample player will display the title of the song that is playing back.

Hope this helps!
