In the Explore section, what happened to your editors' Essays? What happened to all of the instrument styles? Some performers record only instrumentals.

P.S. Zac, I reported a problem at https://getsatisfaction.com/allmusic/...

Hi Rootsmusic,
Unfortunately the essays are no longer going to be available on AllMusic. They are difficult to keep relevant and they receive almost no traffic.

While I know some folks may lament their loss, many of them were written long ago and have not been updated in many years. Examples like the "Posse Tracks" essay (http://www.allmusic.com/explore/essay...) and the "New Country" essay (http://www.allmusic.com/explore/essay...) which anxiously looks forward to 1997 are indicators that the information was outdated and since we do not plan to spend time keeping them up-to-date we decided to remove them from the site.

The Instrument pages meet a similar fate. Their relative value (based on the number of people who are viewing them) makes it clear that the amount of work we put into creating and maintaining them are much more effort than the amount of activity on those pages.

I apologize if these pages will be missed but that was a decision that was made based on the resources we have available to maintain them.

Where are the music essays? When AllMusic originally wnet online, the site may have been somewhat quaint by web standards, but there was great care to ensure that the core users who were used to the hard copy printed books could use the site. About 5 years there was a system upgrade that eliminated the Music Maps. No, I am unable to find the essays, which managed to survice the last update. This new site may be what a new generation of considers to be up to date, but as an older user, I am finding AllMusic's format to be increasingly useless.

The "explore" function on the old site included several dozen short but informative articles about different musical genres, styles and themes. For example, there were articles titled "British R&B," "British Invasion," "Blue-Eyed Soul," etc. Are these articles gone from the new site?

Hi Richard,

Sadly, these articles were pretty outdated and didn't receive much traffic, so they haven't been brought over.

On the old site, when I clicked on a genre, there were articles pertaining the to various sub-genres. For example, if I clicked into Jazz, there were several Scott Yanow articles on the page regarding Dixieland, Swing, Bebop, Hard Bop, etc. Are these articles waiting to be transferred to the new site? Are they being rewritten? Are they just no more? Thank you!
