I'm Sorry... BUT I HATE THE NEW APP!

New App
I'm a huge side reel fan, and loved using the app on both my phone and ipad BUT I HATE the new version. So much so that for the first time ever I am posting this feedback about the app.
- It now takes WAY too long to load. Everything it has to load takes so long that I have stopped using it on my phone and now rarely use it on my ipad. it doesn't matter how much reception I have or even if I've connected to Wi Fi...
- I loved how in the OLD tracker function I used to be able swap between watched and unwatched at the touch of one button, and it would maintain that preference even if I closed the app. Now every time you close the app and come back in you have to re-set the filter button on the tracker, which is about 3 steps and takes a much longer time to load
- I liked the old tracker list, where you could see the name and what episode you were up to, and could see 5 or 6 shows on one screen. Now with the large side reel header up the top and the ribbon along the bottom and the annoying ads streaming along the bottom, it means that only 2.5 shows can be seen at once. This also greatly effects the number of shows which can be viewed in the search function or calendar function.
-Also, the app still cant be 'swivelled' with the iphone or ipad so that I can be viewed horizontally...

Please consider going back to some of the original features, ditch the advertising (or allow us to upgrade to a version without ads), fix the header and footer width to allow more screen space for the actual information and allow us to set our preferences for how the app will be used in the settings (e.g. tracker preference, calendar preference).
Thank you
Sarah

Hi James,

You should be able to see your Tracked shows in the TV Schedule. To see your Tracked shows, verify you are logged in and tap "SCHEDULE." Then tap "MY SCHEDULE" in the top right. Any shows that you have tracked should be displayed in the date that they air on. If you continue to have issues with this please let us know.

Hi Rod,

Are you using the iPad or iPhone app. When you tap into the Schedule, does it say My Schedule to the right or left of the screen? You shouldn't be seeing shows that are not yours if you are in the My Schedule view.

Hi Rod,

That's helpful to know though from a usability perspective. Were you on an iPhone, by the way?

Hi Aisha,

We actually have a bug with search right now that is causing both the web site and the iOS app have trouble finding shows. We hope to have a fix out for this in the next couple of days.

To access the show information from your app Tracker, if you are on an iPhone, simply tap the Show poster in the Tracker list and you will see the show information as well as have the opportunity to access the seasons and episode lists.

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear you are displeased with the new app. To address some of your points:

  • This is a first version of the app and we are actively seeking ways to improve it's performance. We plan to roll out incremental improvements to improve the overall responsiveness of the app and reduce load times.
  • We are also looking at a way to remember your filters in the Tracker and will hopefully have a fix available for that feature in the near future. We will also consider doing the same for the Schedule/Calendar.
  • The Tracker in the new iPhone app actually has more information than the old app, including the episode title and the air date. The old Tracker did not include this information. The new Tracker also has a Mark Watched button right there next to your next episode, a feature which the previous app did not have. In the old app, you would have to tap into an episode to mark it as watched. The shows lists also now have a much easier Track Show button, available with just one tap.
  • Regarding the screen real estate, we are actively looking into ways to improve the design, particularly for iPhone 4 users, so you can see more shows at one glance. The old app, by the way, could only display a little more than 3 shows per screen, not 5.
  • We made the choice to provide only a portrait mode for the iPhone because it is by far the most common way iPhone consumers use their phones. We will however, consider providing various orientations for the future.

We do appreciate all of your feedback, especially the detailed tweaks you would like to see made. Please do let us know anything else that is not working for you.

Hi Jen, thanks for your replies. I m looking forward to the updates you have mentioned and hopefully that will make it a bit better to use. Now that I've been using it for a few weeks I can see there are some great additions, like the way we can view the whole season of a show and across across without having to click on the show and follow it through a view different screens. I also like the counter at the side which says how many episodes I have to watch.

I look forward to the ability to maintain settings which will be great!

Anither suggestion for the 'tracker' section of the app would be to have an 'expanded information' function where you can see all the information (which is the current setting) and a condensed setting where all you see is the name of the show and the episode you are up to. This way we could see our whole list at a glance.

Another request would be to have a 'time zone' setting. I am in Australia and as soon as it's midnight it adds the shows that will screen on that date in the US. This means that I have shows in my tracker almost 2 full days before I can actually download them...

Thanks again for taking the time to read through and address the issues I've had. I don't HATE the new app anymore, there are still some things that could improve but after using it for a few weeks it has grown on me :-)

UPDATE: We submitted an update to the store today for the app. This new update will improve overall performance and load time, but will also remember your unwatched Tracker setting. Due to Apple's review policies, the update may take anywhere from 3 to 6 days to be live in the store and available for download.

The new app stinks!.

The tracker doesn't save my preferences and doesn't get rid of shows when I am up to date. The ad also takes up way too much of the app. Do NOT like this new update.

Hi Kristin,

You can see unwatched shows in your Tracker by setting the Unwatched filter. Within a week, a new update will be available in the store that will remember this Unwatched filter setting every time you return to the app.

Yes but if I put my phone down for even a second, the setting goes away. This new update better be amazing. I've been using sidereel to track my shows for a long time and I don't know what I'd do without it.

I also liked that the old version told me how many shows I had that were unwatched.

Hi Kristin,

We will be bringing back the little red badge that tells you which shows are unwatched in a future iteration. Our software team is working on that feature currently.
