International Competitions

Could I please add an official request for your parent company to consider international prizes for your competitions?
I know it could be a little complex but there are a lot of options, and U.S. only competitions are clearly generating unsatisfied international users, as seen by multiple posts on nearly every competition held so far.
Maybe by offering digital Prizes, or handling it the way Go Pro, or a lot of Indian companies do (a bit complicated to put the process here.)

Hi Zane!

Thanks for writing in. We love our SideReelers, near and far, and we hate to make anyone feel left out, but I totally understand your frustration. We've done many giveaways in the past that have been open to everyone; however, as our team has become smaller over the years, we just haven't had the bandwidth to do them as frequently as before. The reason you're seeing so many US-only giveaways lately is because these prizes are donated and shipped by external PR companies looking to market their product (often the new release of a DVD or Blu-Ray), who require that the giveaways are open to US residents only (not just because of shipping costs, but sometimes also because the audience they want to market to is located the US). As much as we'd love to open it up to everyone, the restriction is simply based on an agreement we're making in exchange for their free prizes. :) We promise we're not just being lazy or cheap or discriminatory! (Okay, maybe a little cheap... but who can say no to free prizes?)

That said, you're not the only one who has requested this, and we'll definitely consider doing an international giveaway in the near future! Any suggestions for what we should give away?

Great reply Alex, I'm sure other people will read this, and have a better understanding of the limitations.

Co-branding to help drive promotions is a great strategy, but perhapse digital incentives could be a more effective option, to promote good will from your international patrons? I'm not a marketing expert, so feel free take these ideas with a grain of salt :)

Bonus badges for competition entrants, and for winners
Custom titles/tags for winners (like editor tag, but different)
Custom avatars, in a similar art style to the Badge Kittens (who doesn't love cats?)
Netflix (or one of the less popular alternatives) may offer up some Membership prizes (1, 3, or 6 months free) They get free advertising, so it's win win.
Digital Rental Cards via Amazon, Google Play, and iTunes is already a thing. People love to promote their movies.
Youtube Red is on the rise now, and content providers are trying desperatly to get their brands out there.

I assume someone on your team is already up to speed with operant conditioning and gamification techniques, however I couldn't help but notice that they are only used to limited a degree on the site, and missing some of the most vital features! (compare to Reddit or Twitter's winning social loop formulas.)
I would reccomend possibly finding more inclusive methods that will help you most in driving the end user's behaviours into the desired direction.
