Lack of album cover art.

I've noticed that many album covers are missing from artists discography links. Pics that I know were there before are now gone. What is the reason for these cover art omissions?

We recently received this message from our data provider:
We would like to update you on a change in the Rovi Music metadata products effective July 1, 2016.

Rovi has had a longstanding arrangement with Sony Music Entertainment (SME). This contract is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2016 and we have been unable to come to terms with SME on an agreement. Under the terms of your Rovi license agreement, if Rovi is not able to secure rights to distribute certain content, we cannot distribute this content to you. Therefore, effective July 1, 2016 all SME album cover art and 30-second music clips will no longer be part of the Rovi Music metadata products.

We're working with Sony Music Entertainment now in an effort to side-step Rovi's limitations so that we can provide these covers on AllMusic.

As far as *why* they have removed the covers, I was not part of the negotiations between Rovi and Sony Music Entertainment to know why Sony wanted to remove the images and sound clips. I have spoken with Sony representatives to let them know that many music fans use AllMusic to research classic albums as well as new releases.

Since this change, we have not been able to showcase new Sony/Epic/RCA/Arista/Columbia albums on our homepage, on our featured new releases page or on our new release newsletter, and we have made the label aware of this.

Bummer. Well, they’re idiots. I buy A LOT of music based on Allmusic.
