Lack of foreign language shows and dedicated section on the site an issue for Internationla Users

I have been using sidereel of a while not and so far I love it even though the lack of some sort of rating for TV shows and a ADVANCE search bottom are a little annoying at time when I want to find a new show.

I find most of my American TV shows on this site when i can't catch it on TV. But as a non-American lately I have been very frustrating try to find foreign language shows. Aside for the usual British and to a leaser extent Canadian TV shows I have noticed that Foreign TV shows are ignored here to a point that it has made make me realize how American-centric and biased this website can be.

I think it is a shame that Americans are not exposed to international programming because there is an amazing variety of high quality productions out there that have never make it to the US. Instead when find ourselves watching third tier American remakes of foreign shows that put quantity over quality first because it is easier to Syndicates and sell that way. Skin anyone?, Being Human? I can go on forever and that the saddest part is that those are not actually foreign language shows because even though they are not American made they are still made in English and though we still have the need of making a remake because be can't bare/understand a foreign accent even in our own language. That is just sad.

the Other they I was watching one of your (I think it was Yael who said it ) podcast about British TV and you guys said that Hustle was a good show for those who were looking for a good ripoff of Leverage, and I almost threw up a little bit on my mouth knowing that hustle has being on the air since 2004/2003 and leverage is a moderately new show. that is how little we know about the foreign TV, which is a shame. coming from someone who did not grow up in the States, one of the things I almost used to like about TV is that is was a door to understand and learn about new cultures and countries, you could watch anything from Mexican soup Operas to Romanian movies any time you wanted, but in this country you can't do any of that, and I think this has to change.

Anyway, I think I am getting a little of topic here, but MY point is that I think a international/foreign section on sidereel would be beneficial for all of us international users who want to be able to find our favorite French TV show, or like to watch Korean Drama, Japanese game shows, German programing TV and have no time to just start looking TV show by TV show on the full list. i HONESTLY BELIVE THAT HAVING A SECTION ENTIERLY FOR INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMING WOULD EXPOSE MORE PEOPLE TO THE GREA VARIETY OF TV SHOWS THATH THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON and at the same time make it easier for anybody from say china, or Turkey or whatever to find their favorite TV shows.

and don't get me wrong I really love American shows but I like to be expose to what's out there to. it really is a shame that some Americans really think that the world revolves around this country and I think that by having them expose to what is happening outside of their backyard we can change that type of world view to a more inclusive and understanding of other people's traditions/cultures one.

and by no mean is this a diss, It's really a suggestion more than anything.

oh and to explain myself a little further when I say Foreign language/international TV shows I do not necessarily mean TV shows on a language other than English, but TV shows that were made/produced on Foreign countries other than Canada and England. It should really matter if the shows are translated or have subtitles as long as they are available.

and I know that the links are provided by the users and not this site but it the site had a international section to begin with the users would be more willing to post link form other countries, instead of just posting them somewhere else where they are ultimately lost and forgotten.

thank in advance, and I really hope you guys consider my suggestion seriously and don't take this as some sort of persona; attract or something like that

Hi luui,

First off, welcome to SideReel, and I'm glad you've been enjoying your time exploring the site! Thank you so much for taking the time to compose such a well-thought-out post with your ideas and suggestions -- as fellow TV addicts ourselves (and many of us avid users of the site as well) -- we definitely value your opinion and are always open to hear what you have to say and what other features you want from the site! Now allow me to go through some of your points one by one! :)

First off, we do have ratings for many of our top shows! You can find them on the right-hand sidebar under "Editor's Scorecard." I agree that we definitely need to have more of these on more shows -- not just our most popular ones! We're a pretty small editorial team, so we try to have a more personal touch, and it can be tough to cover such a huge world of TV!

You're absolutely right that our site is biased towards American TV. Please don't think it's because we think the world revolves around American TV or that American knock-offs of foreign shows are better (no way!), but we started off as a super-small start-up over in San Francisco (and are still based here), so we definitely have a sort of comfort zone with the popular shows here in the US. Furthermore, most of the shows we prioritize are based on which shows are most popular among ALL SideReel users (US and International users alike), which are always American shows -- Gossip Girl, Glee, True Blood, Pretty Little Liars -- but we're ALWAYS open to adding new shows when they're requested! Much of this is also due to the fact that our links are user-submitted, links are usually not as available as US shows. However, you are always welcome to submit any requests for shows here on our support site as a "To Do," and someone from our team will be happy to add it to our database!

As our library of international shows grows, a genre page dedicated to them would be a great idea to help users discover them! So far the only international-based genre pages we have are British (http://www.sidereel.com/_television/g...) and Canadian (http://www.sidereel.com/_television/g...) -- just because they are the most popular among all of our users, but I totally agree that we could use more!

Thanks again for your support and thoughtful feedback, and please free to add any other ideas, plus requests to more shows you think need to be added to SideReel!

Hi nelsie,
As explained above, we don't currently have a section dedicated to international shows, but maybe sometime in the future!

Hi there! Thanks for submitting your idea! Since our shows are mostly manually added, we've opted to stick to English language shows at this time, but we're certainly open to expanding our catalog sometime in the future!
