misuse of megavideo

Within hours of a show being listed, many, many fake megavideos are posted (placards that look like legitimate links, seconds to a couple of minutes, at most in length) with links directing you to another website:
Because of copyright restrictions Megavideo keeps removing our TV episodes.
So to make our life and your life easier to watch TV shows we have uploaded it at _________

Edit: Browsing SideReel support pages, I see that other users are also experiencing same problem for approximately the last week or so.

I agree, this never happened before, and it is starting to get more rampant. Sad to say, if it keeps up, I may look for another place to call online tv home.

wow, I don`t think you even understand what Megavideo is for. In their policy they dont even allow illegal content and they remove them daily. Megavideo is just a place where you can upload videos that is legal so you can share it with your friends and family. A lot of people however take advantage of this and upload TV shows or movies so they can gather points and make money when they redeem their points. If you don`t like Megavideo why don`t you try another source.. There are a plenty of different ways that you can stream videos free (zshare, divx and etc..) I don`t like Megavideo either but some people who do.. they will buy a premium account that gives them access to both Megavideo and Megaupload which is a plus for downloading.

in summary : Megavideo is just a file-sharing host.. THEY DON`T UPLOAD THESE VIDEOS, users like yourself do it for money. Tons of videos are deleted daily on megavideo.I hope you get the point now.

You obviously misunderstand the problem. I come to SideReel because they provide links so I can download or watch TV shows. How would you like to click on a Megavideo, Divxden, zshare or other link and be taken to a placard (maybe with some background music) informing me that I can watch this video at ie. www(dot)abc123.whatever.
If I choose to put that on the address bar, invariably I'm taken to a site that will then popup a placard saying I must either take a quiz or participate in a survey to "unlock" the video I want to see. Without fail before, during or after I'm asked for as much "real" private information as I choose to give. I choose NOT to participate.

I was replying to johnjinkins and not you. I do understand what you are saying however there is always one site that has the right and working stuff all the time. You should always ignore the sites with surveys and never fill them out because they are fakes and not allowed to be posted on SR, and SR does not provide links to the episodes, they only provide links to abc , fancast or amazon. All the other links are posted by normal users and anyone could post a link. I suggest you ignore direct Megavideo links and look for sites that are trusted.. usually when a new show comes out the pages are locked by mods and during that time trusted links are added by mods. You can visit their site and hopefully you will find everything that you need there.

jts1957 - I totally agree with how annoying the spam/false megavideo links are.

fgon50 - I am sorry you feel this way but please be patient with us while we try to work around this problem

johnjinkins - yes reporting them to megavideo is a good idea too, I have done this on many occasions.

Battling false links is a high priority with Mods and Admins on sidereel, we strive to make sidereel the best it can be but there will always be Trolls who think it is smart to post their false vids in the hopes of getting people to their sites this way, but we are always on the look out and we try to remove them as soon as we see them but we cannot catch them all, the users who add them 9 times out of 10 also remove other sites working links then post their spam megavideo ones. This is the main reason we lock pages to shows when a new episode is airing. As VidooxTV says Mods and Admins add links that are requested by users to be added which are trusted sites and checked that those links are legit before we add them.

Stop your bitxing about the megavideo links..

Yes I agree w/ the fake spam links.. But I do not agree about the piracy problem.

Internet is internet man.. Its not like your losing money by watching their videos.. Yeah they make money from it? So what they provide you with the opportunity to see your favorite series or show any fucking time you want.

They make a most of 2 cents of you watching that video.. WOWWWWWWW 2 cents..

Show a lil support. bitxes! Sidereel profits a lot more from providing pirated megaupload links.

We have noticed a spike in spam with the season premieres and our spam team is trying to fight the good fight by developing better tools. The good news is we're getting better at it every day. Please help us by reporting bad links so that our spamfighters can get cracking on them as soon as they're reported.

Thank you for your patience!

This is becoming more and more of a problem. Not only has megavideo been overwhelmingly difficult to find a reliable link on, now they're doing the same thing on dailymotion, divxden, zshare, etc. I thought this is what the mods are FOR? I report these "broken links" on a regular basis, yet they're never taken down on my next visit. PLEASE be more vigilant about battling obviously fake spam links, or else I'll gladly move on to torrenting or a more vigilant link-supplying site.

We're sorry for your frustration, digthatfunk. Many users, including our own spam team, have noted a decrease in the number of spam links. Are you using sidereel.com or beta.sidereel.com to access the episodes?

Well, thanks for the quick reply, first of all. It's odd that you say many people have noted a decrease in spam links, it was only recently(past 2-3 months) that I've encountered this problem at all, and I feel it's gotten worse as the new Fall seasons have started. I'm currently using the regular sidereel.com; until about an hour ago, when I came across a thread mentioning it, I didn't even know there WAS a beta. I do plan on checking it out; but would this decrease the spam links? If so, how? My main issue is: it seems that no matter how diligently I mark the spams as "Broken Link", they are never removed anyway. And, once I find one that DOES work, there's no way to notify fellow SideReelers of the fact. Have you guys ever thought of employing a "vote" system, or something along similar lines? Allow us users to mark working/non-working links, so that you guys can still find out which ones are broken links, but we can also(much more conveniently than sifting through 50 spam links at various, ad-laden sites) find out which DO work.

Also, a quick note, but I see that on the zshare website(one of the sites now being used for fake spam links), it notes video size. The ads are often less than 1 mb, and if not, almost always under 5-10 mb. This is a quick way to check whether the uploaded ones are fake. I thought that many popular shows were locked shortly after they premier to prevent just such a thing? It's almost only the very popular shows I notice this on. Perhaps make them go through a mod channel BEFORE being posted, just a quick verification by human eyes is all it would take. Heck, I'd even(hypothetically) volunteer, just so other people would be saved the aggravation of dealing with the links.
